Best brake discs?
« on: 18 September 2014, 11:13:01 pm »
Hello Foccers!

What brake discs are the best after market ones? Are those ones from China and Hong Kong you can get on ebay any good or are they lower quality than the more well known makes?

Any ideas on this and what would forum members recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Avoid buying from China or Hong Kong, the quality is unknown and if you have issues then you'll have no end of trouble getting things sorted out, at least if you buy in the UK then if you had any problems then they could be resolved in days rather than weeks or months!
I would expect to pay around £100+ EACH for front discs.
Unfortunately they're one of the more expensive replacement parts on bikes.

Blackshadow are pretty good tbh - UK based, worth giving them a buzz to see if they make them for the Fazer. Be about £180 for a set.

They're rated prettty highly on the zx9r forum I'm on, which is a heavier, faster bike and a lot of the guys on their ride hard, so they'll certainly be fine on an FZS.

It's all too easy to be attracted to the cheaper Chinese ones, but don't forget it's this part of the bike that keeps you alive!
Scrimp and save on cheap oil and the likes but brakes are the one thing you should happily spend money on!

Usually you get what you pay for. Brakes are something I don't believe scrimping on, be it discs, pads or even the foccing calipers themselves. :rolleyes

Heard the Ferodos on ebay for £100 each are good. Reputable brand anyway.

I picked up some second hand ones after I bent one of mine.  They were in better nick than the ones already on there with very minimal wear and cost £60 for a pair rather than £260.
