Engine Problems
« on: 25 May 2014, 04:21:12 pm »
Hi Owners' Club,

I'm currently experiencing some intermittent engine problems that don't seem to have a pattern for emerging. It has started to happen more frequently, occurring on my last two rides.

The problem itself is that the engine seems to lose power and then when I come to a junction it'll cut out. The engine will start again but only if I supply some throttle and hold the throttle on, else it'll just cut out again. Luckily this seems to occur not far from the end of my journey but on one occasion I had some way still to travel. after 3 miles or so the problem seemed to fix itself.

Does anyone have any suggestions for things I could check easily myself before I take it in? I can just imagine how expensive this is going to be because it may take the garage ages to narrow it down.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Cheers guys

Tom

Nah, maybe dirt in the fuel tract, jets etc,,,could be anything,,loose wire, plug lead,,maybe start it up in the pitch dark to see if you can see an escaping spark

there was a recall on the throttle position sensor has this been done? I think this could cause the engine to stall? your yam dealer can check from the reg. number.
just an idea but could be lots of things, some of the switches are playing up on mine, e.g. the horn and headlight flasher, a spray with maintainance fluid helps.

Sounds like it might be fuel starvation to me.
Before you take it to a garage just the normal checks, how long ago was it serviced, what's the engine temperature like when riding?
Does it just happen when low on fuel?
