Bike Blown Over :(
« on: 03 January 2012, 11:02:51 pm »
Woke this morning in Edinburgh to very high winds, first thought is always the bike, never blown over before but so paranoid. Well today my paranoia turned in to a sense of unhappiness, my bike had blown over in the wind. The news said there was gusts clocked at 102mph in Edinburgh.

That sucks, sadly its been fairly common this year.
i try to park mine on the side stand rather than main stand so the wind hits the sloped over bike in the hope it deflects it rather than push's it over.
had a bike taken off a centre stand before by the wind, but i was realy stupid as i had the cover on it to.

Always park on the side stand, old ER5 was blown over on centre stand to often so its a ritual now. I had a cover on the bike so that never helped but never knew anything about high winds till it was to late.  :(

Damage was not to great, just a bit of a pain! We live and learn!

That's not good.

Not as gusty in London but still pretty blowy.

@ Tefer I've seen a bike cover blow up like a sail / baloon and drag a bike right over. So if your got a bike cover on in high winds make sure it's propper lashed down.

That sucks, glad it wasn't too bad though.

I woke up this morning to find my bike barn upside down and wrapped round my bike. Fortunately since I now own a ten tonne bike it was still upright.

However, since the front wheel was holding down the bike barn with a cross plate type thingy, the metal poles are all bent to shit.

Not a great advert for the 'Bike barn' Chillum.

Bit of a hint / tip kinda thing but  4 old 5 ltr bottles or milk bottles at a push ---filled with water and sealed then 2 lengths of rope about 8ft long tied to make 2 separate pairs of bottles then a shorter 4ft rope between the ends of the pairs to make a rectangle of ropes to  then deploy like a weighted cargo net. Will help hold down a cover etc and costs about £2 assuming you drink the milk or use the contents of the bottles

We had really high winds up by me, it nearly took my car off the road  :(

when i got home i put the bike next to the wall on the side stand.... at least if it was going to blow over it would have just fell an inch or two against the wall...

Luckily it didnt blow over.... same cant be said for the neighbours  :\

The wind round the side of the house has gotten worse since the neighbours have just cropped the leylandi at the bottom of their gardens, it funnels and then has nowhere to go so it spirals upwards (hence the lifting of the bike barn).

Apart from the bent retaining plates for the concertina part of the barn there was no actual damage - a couple of the poles popped apart, but then I haven't taped them together and I haven't got the whole thing fixed to the ground either.

The most annoying thing is that I have a garage full of crap that I'd like to use, but the missus won't part with any of it.

A fair point, but my life is worth more than the bike, and that would be worth diddely squat if I shoved all my wife's stuff into it to get damp  :)

That's not a thumb-print - it's a bar-code that allows me to pay for the shopping  :lol
