carburetter pipes

Hi, can someone tell me what connects to the link that is circled in the photo.
I fought it may of connected to the air box but it's a good inch away from it.

Had my carbs off last week and noticed the same, there was nothing connected to the bit of plastic on mine, I did wonder for a while after but the bike is running fine, the manual doesn't mention it either.

Filtered air vent, not attached to anything other than the carbs
