tick over or running
« on: 03 April 2014, 02:40:30 pm »
Started my 600 after winter away. Left it with full tank. Running lumpy. Keeps cocking out. Still goes great until you stop. Put 18quid fresh fuel in. 1 mile home. Still cutting out. Any ideas please feel free to tell me.

Never heard of a bike cocking out before, must be owned by a dickhead  :lol

Mostly likely dirty pilot jets from the fuel being left in the bowls evaporating over the winter. Drain the float bowls as a first option. If this does not resolve it you may need to remove the carburettors and clean the pilot jets and float bowls.

That's what I would do before removing the carbs. Depends on how adverse to taking things apart on your bike :P

Mix some carb cleaner in with your fuel and change the plugs.

You may as well put a cup of tea in your tank, that stuff is a total waste of money and will do nothing!

STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner is the only additive i've ever known to show noticeable results before.
Half a bottle per full tank, over 2 tanks.

I hate to be pessimistic, but I reckon you're probably going to have to take off your carbs and clean out the jets and fine drillings.

They don't like being stood.  I start the engine once a month over winter and run it up to temperature to avoid blocked jets.
