Hunting at 3500 rpm

Bought myself a standard fazer 1000 gen 1 and it is really good. I've been using it for a few days now and the only slight issue is it seems to be hunting slightly on a steady throttle at 3500 rpm. It's so long ago when i last rode a standard fazer i can't remember if this was a common problem or if there is a solution. The only thing i could think of was old fuel as the bike had covered less than 300 miles in 3 years? I have fitted a venom race can with the front db killer in and the rear one out. Ps.. It seems to be slightly worse when it's cold.

Hi Nick
Sounds like a combination of lean surge, made worse by partially blocked pilot jets.
What year is the bike? If it's a 2002/early 03, they suffered worst from lean surge.
Try some carb cleaner in the fuel first.

Hi Mike, It's an '02. It isn't too bad it sounds like it's hunting but doesn't cause the bike to judder. Whats the best carb cleaner to put in fuel. I have redex injector cleaner. Could i stick some of that through the fuel system?

No personal experience but I gather that Redline fuel cleaner (see ebay) is the stuff that works.
Try that first and then we can take it from there.

Tickover is slightly unsteady, as if they are slightly out of balance.

Put some carb cleaner through the bike and thrashed it silly.
Seems to have sorted it
