Won a YBR125 on fleabay for the missus & am picking it up tomorrow.

I've decided to ride it back the 80 miles from Suffolk to Peterborough. The route consists of mainly the A14 /A1 - two of the best driving / riding roads in the country(not!) - as I've said....it will be an experience.

Soon as I get back ( after a cup of tea & a thaw out) I'm jumping on my Gen2 FZ1 to take it to my mates unit to put in storage for the next couple of (snowy) months.

I wonder if I'll notice much difference going from 12bhp to 150bhp?

When I bought my 125 (Varadero), I rode it from Hull to Leeds, then the next day Leeds to north Essex, on CBT so avoiding motorways. That second leg took 5 hours and wasn't much fun I can tell you but I did hit 70mph on the A1! An 80 mile bimble across Suffolk and the flatlands should be a breeze

Maybe plot a more cross country route, it'll definitely be more enjoyable that those bloody roads. I can't tell you how happy I am not to be a regular on the A14 these days!

rain tomorrow.............sunday fine............ or I hope it is planning a ride to Dunnies cafe at Otley closing down, it's the only cafe I know that puts chips on your breakfast and bacon, sausage, eggs, tomatos, beans, spam, black pudding, mushrooms and toast all for £3 odd.
The site is being redeveloped? so it has to go.

Plan to get in the slipstream of a wagon & sit at 55mph. If the A14 is gridlocked as usual then the 125 should come into its own filtering. Just hope its not raining.

Gotta be worth a bj off the missus!

Are you bonkers? Have you seen the weather forecast for tomorrow? I'm also in Peterborough and it's getting decidedly blowy out there already and is supposed to be getting worse overnight. Not the weather to be riding in my opinion, especially not something lightweight on the A14. If you've got access to a trailer, I've got a Range Rover and could pick it up for you if you prefer.

but unfortunately i don't know anyone with a trailer.

Weather predicts windy but dry. I'm commited to doing it now so I'll let you know how it pans out tomorrow.

I think I'd rather do the A142-ish route

Fairly open countryside, but at least there should be less traffic.

When I bought my CBR i rode back at 10pm, first 600 I'd ridden after passing my test and after riding a Hyosung GV125 for 2 years, in February, at about 3 degrees. Great fun.

I'm sure you'll be fine, just take it steady (is there any other way on a YBR)

I did a tour of the Scotland on my CBF 125 back in 09'. Bout 1000 miles in 5 (long) days. With a load of gear too...

Ahh that reminds me few years ago my wifes family chipped in for a tomos ped for the mother in law for christmas , i thought it would be a good idea to ride it the 30 miles back for them........ BIG MISTAKE i froze my nads off & was bored shitless after about 5 miles

I'm not far from Peterborough and Huntingdon and the weather has been fine all day. Been out and done some silly speeds on the A14 and the only really windy bit was the elevated section at Thrapston.

Hi Rusty - Couldn't have asked for better weather - apart from the freezing head /sidewind which limited me to 50mph all the way - although I did get to 68mph & overtook a wagon on the A1 just outside Peterborough. I know - photo or it didn't happen.

Like paul1606 - I froze me nads off & all my other extremities & was burstin for a pee for the last 20 miles. Anyway as the title of the thread...It was an experience!

But not as much as.......
Jumping on the Gen2 an hour after getting home & riding it. I L-O-V-E that bike!

I'd only just done my CBT when I moved from Sheffield to Norwich so my Dad ended up riding my SR125 down for me in January.

It was a bit different to the Pan he was using at the time

Always reckon a true biker will ride any bike any distance regardless of size. A few years ago when I bought my 225cc Serow in Barnstaple North Devon, I rode it the 350 miles back to Cork.

I was on the back of my friends Gs12000 as far as Bristol on the way to Barnstaple and rode my other friends VFR 800 from Bristol to Barnstaple when he rode pillon on the GS1200 (he was not used to long journeys). I was the first back to the ferryport in Pembroke for the 2:45am ferry, they got lost when they took a wrong turn off the M4

When I am riding long journeys I count down the towns I'm passing by or through rather than thinking of the overall milage, it make the journey feel shorter. My trip back from Barnstaple to Pembroke on the serow was about 12 towns/cities which were around 20 miles apart. I was picking off around 20 miles at a time, which did not feel as bad as counting down from 220miles.

It'll make you enjoy your fazer more! I've been using the 125 to go between Nottingham and Sheffield. The shop I bought the Fazer from is on my route so I got to ride it on a road where I'd have been pushing the SR to it's limits, wing mirrors shacking and really unpleasant in wind. Doing it on the fazer was bliss (until it got dark on the way back, where I kept thinking I hadn't turned the lights on).

P.S. Oddly enough due to me hurting myself my Dad had to ride the SR back from Norwich a year later.

I like being upright. But if you have to go slower then everything else it's nice to be able to see things in your mirrors. I'm looking forward to riding on a warm day where I don't have to choose between going 3 mph faster or having the vents on my jacket open.
