Hi from New Mexico
« on: 12 November 2013, 04:29:26 pm »
I bought my 2011 FZ8 about 10 months ago with 735 miles on it. I purchase a used FZ6R (not the faster R6) the summer of 2012 and really enjoyed the light weight but it lacked a little get up and go so I jumped at the chance to buy the FZ8. I still have the FZ6R for friends to ride when they journey south to escape the cold winters up north.  :) I found this forum last night from a search for a FZ8 shop manual as I have to replace my front fork seals. With only 6,600 miles on the bike that seems a bit early to have to change them but there is a lot of dust and grit here in the desert. Thanks for the manual by the way. Here is an early picture of my bike without a couple of the minor things I've added. I'll try to get a new picture to post soon.

ello m8. been out your neck of the woods (El Paso) in the middle of winter (bikeless)

No, never had a problem with it getting hot to the touch. We have a place up in Colorado Springs where we spend the summers but it gets up to 95-100 there on occasion.

The best roads I have been on are up in Colorado and Wisconsin. Down here in southern NM there are a lot of roads that just turn into sand or run straight as an arrow for miles. Cops are cops every where but down here there are fewer of them.  :)

Hands down the best riding I've done (in the summer) is in Wisconsin as the state paves everything. The area around my friend's place is farms and woods with lots of hills and winding roads.  There is the odd slow moving farm equipment or stray cow to keep you alert but it's a lot of fun. Here in NM it seems to be all about getting someplace fast as most of the roads are straight lines. The speed limit on expressways is 75 and 80 in some parts of Texas. I find excuses to travel to neighboring towns, 120 mile round trip for pepper spiced olives, 70 mile round trip for BBQ brisket for supper ... and play 'pass the car in front of me' along the way.  ;) I'm sure I will enjoy being here with fellow enthusiasts.

Hello fellow American from the land of Breaking Bad.

Nice bike!

Being from the midwest - I'd agree with what you said about WI - some amazing roads to the west and south of the state.

Nice breweries too - ie New Glarus.
