Re-Spray, wrap, or hydrodipping ?
« on: 13 November 2013, 07:33:03 pm »
Part of my winter rebuild is to touch up and improve the paint work, respray is expensive, has any one tried a full wrap or hydrodipping, i have seen some pictures of hydrodipping and it looks really good , not sure how tough the film is.

looking to keep the colour as near to silver as possible  its the fastest colour   :D

Hydro-dip will depend on how tough the finish used is. If it's in line for road debris, you can end up with this (stone chips, see pic), but otherwise, the finish is glossy smooth and looks great.

I looked into getting mine wrapped before the respray. Basically the tank is apparently a bg no no due to the petrol fuems reacting with the wrap  :\

I've almost completely carbon vinyl wrapped my bike.

Check out my "a bike called Polly" thread.

Thanks for the feed back guys,  Nick when you had the rad ends dipped were they coated after the transfer was applied.

I have found a company in Maidstone who spray a protective coating on after the transfer has been applied,  not sure how tough this would be , but they have been used on car wheels .

Re "poly thread"   excellent rebuild read the thread very skilful not sure i have the necessary patience or skill set , but i thought your engine respray section was really good, intend to copy your example.

Tbh, I don't know as I bought the ready dipped rad covers. I would've thought it was possible to get a hard wearing clear coating applied, but someone else will have to advise on that. My covers were done by Aquagrafix I believe - maybe if you contact them, they can advise:
