Clutch-knocking???????
« on: 01 October 2013, 03:32:08 pm »
Hi , All noticed recently that when starting bike there is a knocking coming from the clutch , you can here it and feel it more from the gear selector side. The knocking is still apparent even when warm too . When i fully engage clutch hot/cold engine, the knocking stops , release clutch its back  :eek   clutch is working fine and have double checked adjustment and its fine across the rev range. Also even in higher gear when going slow , she still pulls without slipping .
No history on clutch and i have never fitted a bike clutch before ( done many cars in the past tho) Any ideas would be great  :smokin :faz :smokin

Hiya fella,

I think what you are hearing is the equivalent of a throw out bearing in your car. It floats around on the outside of the clutch basket until you pull in the clutch which depresses it and takes out all the clearance necessary to not slightly engage the clutch when it's not being depressed. Think it's normal..........
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

Nice one , hope your right as money is tight at min . Spent a bit on the old girl too recently , sitting on some much improved Dunlop roadsmart 2. Just scrubbed in and feel amazing . Clutch is last thing i wanted now , fingers x and all that .  :smash

Hello, I had the same issue with my last bike and it was the woodruff key holding the primary gear onto the drive shaft was worn. Replaced that and it purred. Woodruff keys are cheap as fook, like 80p but the stripping down is the ball ache.

dont worry bt it?...most on here have same noise?..can sometimes make slightly better by having carbs balanced but you,l never completely get rid!!...make sure your idle speeds set right?...that will help?..
