Stripped thread swingarm mounting point for hugger
« on: 16 September 2013, 10:38:30 am »
So this weekend when I fitted my new trax disc and holder, I managed to strip the thread on the swingarm where the hugger attaches.

Managed to sort it with a 10mm bolt and a washer on both sides with a 10mm nut on the back end.  Thankfully the bolt was short enough not to foul the sprocket.

Thankfully I had a 10mm stubby spanner to tighten the nut on the back, barely had enough room to get the ring spanner off between the boolt and the sprocket.  Only after I finished did I realise that that is what the open end of a spanner is for !!!! D'Oh!

I'll probably retap the thread sometime in the future, unless the next time I ride I discover that the tax disc is loosening.

The mocking may now commence :)

Shove caulk in with the nut. It sticks anything or gunge up with silicone.

Bodgit and Scarperplease take a bow  :rolleyes

Bore and retap later is my plan, but in the meantime I want to get out on ti and see if my washers and new bolt method worked.  Should do.

At the moment I'm laid up with some vomiting bug, the boiler has packed up and it's cold with no hot water.  waiting in for a boiler man, hoping he doesn't arrive mid bout of vomiting

Unless the next time you ride you discover the tax disc is gone  :\ .  Just kidding....you did use a nyloc (or split washer if people get pedantic about nyloc's not being locking nuts  :D )  didn't you ? ;)

Hmm....... :eek   I mean yes of course, I didn't just nip out and add one on the end right under the nut.... ;)

Thanks for the tip

So now it goes bolt head and then the bolt passes through, in order from the outside in:

Penny washer, tax disc holder, rubber washer, hugger hole, swingarm hole, penny washer, spring washer, nut

All nicely tightened, will check periodically, after my next ride, I'm still laid up with a tummy virus.

At least I know I'm lubing the chain enough, my right forearm is covered in it from the chain, rear sprocket and rear wheel hub. Swarfega for the win :)

Thanks for the help all
