Wheels wanted / ideas?
« on: 20 August 2013, 09:46:29 pm »
Hi all

I have a problem with my wheels.

They were dented in my first weeks of owning the bike (bloody pothole, hit a bit fast). The dents have not affected the bike (they've covered 8,000 miles and 4 channel crossings without problems), but are too severe to pass an MOT. The wheels are in good nick, bar the dents (left side, both front and rear). The legal limit is that the dent be 2mm wider than the natural rim, the front (the worse of the two) is 3.5mm.

Does anyone have a spare pair of wheels I could part exchange for mine? I reckon they are repairable, but as the MOT runs out in 10 days, I have neither the time, nor the money, nor the local knowledge to get them sorted myself. Can anyone help me? I'm currently in Andover.

As my tyres are nearly new, I'm just after the rims/metal bit.

Thanks in advance!

I will be offloading a front wheel in the next week or two if that''s any good. I'd be selling it as I'm fitting a different front end. Depends how quick you need it.

Why not get them repaired. I had mine repaired 8 years ago after hitting a brick kicked up by a car and never had a problem with them since. Cost me 80 Euro at the time. There are plenty of good repairs shops around. Check with local dealer and they should be able to give you names of local repairers

The problem is time. I haven't got time to chase garages, I have a full-time job right up to my MOT expiry, the MOT runs out on the 31st of this month, then a few days later, I'm off to France via Holland.

My hope is that someone here will agree to exchange their wheels for mine, with money their way, and with me paying their local garage to swap the tyres over.

Don't think there is ever an easy swap when it comes to this kind of thing! LOL Hoping to fit the front end from a KTM Super Duke 990. Yokes going off to the fabricator today.

Hey Chris, why don't you just borrow a set for the MOT and then carry on with your own. Getting them repaired at your leisure?

Thought of that, but can't think of many 600s in the area. I've forgotten the names of half the blokes I've met at Loomies.  :'(

There is a hope - a friend of a friend runs a garage in Basingstoke, might go up there after work tomorrow & see what he thinks.

That's Friday's fun. I can't wait.  My nephew hired one and got 170 mph out of it, even though they told him it was limited to 155.
