Rear brake affected by engine bars
« on: 19 July 2013, 12:06:21 am »
I just fitted Rentec engine bars to my bike. All went smoothly except one of the bolts is holding the rear break pedal down. I can force it over the bolt but it won't go there naturally. In the pic below, left is the pedal resting on the bolt. Right is it forced up into its correct position. Any ideas on how to fix it? I've considered bending the pedal, filing away the bolt and adjusting the height of the break. None of these options sound great so I'm open to ideas.

Here are some pics of the newly-fitted bars!

Is the bolt head quite proud? or can you get another both with a thinner head that will pass the brake pedal?

is it possible to add a spacer to the brake hanger to move it out past the bolt?

Put washers / spacers in behind the footrest hanger to move it outward a few mm then fit longer footrest hanger bolts to reattach it?

Unfortunately, the footrest hanger is behind the engine bar so I don't think I can do anything with spacers. A different bolt might do the trick. I'll head down to B&Q probably on Saturday to see what they have.

I couldn't get a bolt that fits so I bought one with a wider head and filed it so the break pedal could pass. Thanks for the suggestions.
