for turbo desil mechanics

Before I chuck away upwards of £1000 thought I'd pick q few brains see what my options are ,
While my car was in for a new alternator my brother noticed that the turbo intercooler had a lot of oil in it according to him it was bad ,is this a sign that the turbo seals are goin and the turbo is knqckering up or should I just have the intercooler cleaned

Oil in the intercooler is generally an early warning of impending doom.

Don't worry too much too early though. How many miles has the car done and when was the last time it was checked and seen to be clean?

Oil can get blown back into the air inlet system through various breather pipes. Check that they are all clean and clean out the intercooler and monitor it for a bit before throwing £1000 at an new turbo.

check all the breather hoses from the motor and clean the gunk out. never had a turbo go on a motor of mine, but i do religiously let it spool down before turning off the motor.

It's a Renault scenic 1.9dci 120bhp done approx 105000 miles now so doing good. I've never looked at the intercooler before so can't say when the last time it was checked but I have noticed thick oil residue on connecting hoses

Save your money. If the oil comes back into the intercooler, scrap the car.

Forte do an oil treatment that swells seals, but do as ^he^ says and scrap the pos

Can always flush the IC out with some petrol and see how quickly it comes back.  If it's lots (as in you have to pour it out) the turbo is probably shot, but if it's just a bit then I wouldn't worry about it.  If it's knackered the smoke out the exhaust will tell you.

The Renault/Nissan dci engine has a pretty dire reputation for eating turbos.  Get shot quick.
