Front Wheel bearing
« on: 25 October 2011, 07:11:51 pm »
Started to notice a high pitched whirry whine eminated from the front of my commuter FZS6. When it first started I wondered if it was some kind of wind effect as it starts from about 50mph onwards but it's getting worse and is deffo related to road speeds and i'm 90% sure it's the front.

So, I expect it to be the bearings. I'll inspect when I get a chance on the weekend and will attempt to replace them. Bike is on 56k now and has had many winters thrown at it so not surprised the bearings need replacing. The rear's went in April and they were a B****** to change and i'm expecting the front to be the same/worse.

Any magic tips to help? I've not removed the front wheel before but will go for the plank of wood and a car jack on the downpipes option methinks   :rolleyes

I've done the front bearings on mine - was pretty easy.

Just use a long metal drift to tap them out, keeping them straight so they don't jam. There used to be a stickied HOWTO on swing arm bearings - it's exactly the same principle as that.
