good news bad news what to do
« on: 06 February 2013, 01:38:44 pm »
Strange title but I couldnt think of another.
At the end of the year we will be moving to Scotland, whoo hooo ace. Her indoors wants to spend some more time as pillion whoo hoo still good news as that means more saddle time, now for the but.

She wants to go on the Islands which is ace, but when on Mull in the car we crawl around because that way we spot otters, deer, eagles ect, there in lies the problem; if I go slow on the fazer she gets all toastie the fan comes on and roasts mey legs!! so will it harm her crawling for maybe an hour at a time between blasty bits, getting all hot? Is there a way that she wont? I believe it may be because they run slightly lean, is this true? If it is can I do anything that wont harm the fazer and wont harm the prerformance???

Or do I buy a sh&%%y transalp as a second bike (boring)

HELP me please  :'(

If you are moving up to gods country on a permanent basis I don't see a problem. You can visit the Islands etc with your good lady anytime which gives you lots of saddle time, what you don't see one time, you may see another. You will learn the wildlife hot spots and there you can rest, stretch and watch. Most animals have routes, times etc when they hunt so keep a note when you see them and they won't be far away the next time ( if they have not became prey etc themselves ).
Good luck to you and where are you moving to ?

Hi both, we are moving to Tayvallich, we go to Mull at least three times a year at the mo (in car, we have two dogs), but obviously it will be on our doorstep when we move. We know where to spot everything its just the crawling along the side of the long lochs I was worrying about, I know in slow traffic she gets hot and its the same sort of speeds.

Of course the other issue is learning where the boys in blue hang out as there are some cracking roads where a speed limit might possible be fractured occasionally of a Sunday morning  :\

Cant wait..
Cheers

As for the bike saddling along, it won't do it any harm. Been doing that on my fazer through traffic for years.

If worried you could put in a manual switch to kick the fan in early.

The main reason I bought a Fazer was so I could take the other half out in relative comfort but once I got it, I didn't want her spoiling my fun so stopped taking her with me!  :\

I did the same when I bought a tiger 1050 so she could go on the back. She went on it once! I thought stuff this, I want my fazer back! She can still go on the back when she feels like it, and I still have my toy :-D

Gent's,
Mike GTX has had an Illuminated Fan Switch on his Gen 1 for years .. he also fitted one to my last Gen 1  :b .

The idea is that you start the fan 'well early' when entering Spanish Villages and Towns .. these can often be chocker block, stand still slow on summer time (40c in the shade) week-end market days, etc.  :\   The early air flow helps keep the engine closer to optimum working temperature .. not struggling to cool down .. it works OK down here so I recon it should up there in Gibson County  :lol .

As for the heat on your legs problem .. it can be a serious distraction. Try a section of 'heat shield' type plastic inside your trouser legs. I'm thinking stuff like cut up 'cool bags' used for frozen food shopping, maybe.  8)

Down here in Spain the constant stream of sweat running from you lid, down and out of ya boots, helps to keep things cool .. Not! Oh how we suffer  :lol

By the way .. that Silver Foil Cool Bag type plastic stuff idea works in reverse in wintertime .. helps to keep your knees warm ;o)   Old Long Haul Riders tricks  ;)  I'm booked in to be drifting around up North myself .. out on the Outer Hebrides Island of South Harris in June .. long way home via the Highland Mountains and over via Berwick.

Stay Safe Peps  ;)    Polar Bear.   Costa Blanca
