Centre stand question
« on: 27 April 2013, 11:21:25 pm »
Hi All!

Quick background on the problem first, for any interested :P
I bought my fazer at the end of 2012, and at the time of purchase, had a few problems getting the bike on the centre stand.  I thought this was just an issue of a combination of lack of technique and lack of physical size (I'd only just passed my bike test, and am not a particularly big guy).
After a bit of investigation, I realised that actually the problem stemmed from the feet of the stand on either side not being in line.  Was a bit confused as to why this was the case, until the metal rod connecting the 2 stand feet snapped (had rusted right through), leaving me with a completely unusable centre stand :(

Now that's out of the way, I'm looking to resolve my issue of having no usable centre stand.
First option is to get the garage to weld it up for around £60.  This has the drawbacks that I'm still using the original stand that came with the bike, which is pretty stiff, old etc and could be rusting in other places.
The second option, which I'm more keen on, is to replace the stand with a new (or good condition second hand) one.  Only problem is, Ebay only seems to be able to show me newer fz6 or fz1 centre stands.

So my question is: Can I use one of these stands from a more modern Fazer on my bike?  If so, are there any in particular that people recommend, and that will fit my bike with minimal (hopefully no) modifications to the fittings etc.
Or, would people recommend that it's easier/less hassle/a better idea to weld up the original stand and carry on with that?

Any input appreciated :)

My old stand used to give me grief a bit and it was only until i changed it i realised it had rusted weak points and was twisted.
I'm not sure if welding it would help matters as they are quite a feeble material.
You may be better off doing a free online motorcycle breakers search and just get a proper replacement one that's in good condition (ask for email replies only).
I won the bid for my latest one for £1.99 with £8 postage on Ebay, i was well happy, and it was like new too, i was the only bidder  :smokin

I had the same issue. Became harder and harder to raise, (Fnar Fnar ) until two of us couldn't do it.
Got one from Ben on here and it pops up easy as owt.

They are £168 'ish new

Sorry that didn't answer your question did it.
Might want to keep an eye out for a used one.

This chap is breaking a Fazer, auction has ended but you can still contact him.  Strange chap though, exchanged a couple of messages, then I asked him for a photo of the tank and never heard back!

If you type "FZS600 breaking" on Flebay a few bikes pop up as well.

Thanks for all the responses!
So from what I can gather, a 2003 Fazer's centre stand should be fine on my 2000 FZS600, right?

I had the same problem a few years ago and I replaced the stand with a good second hand one from a breaker and has been fine ever since.
The same stand fits all the carburettor model Fazers from 1998 to 2003. I used new bolts as the old one were worn

I managed to get a decent centre stand from http://www.fazerspares.com last year - about £20 I think it was.  :)
