Coolant Drain Bolt Which One? - Help!!
« on: 02 August 2012, 09:05:35 pm »

On a year 2000 FZS 600.

I'm attempting to Replace the Coolant.  Which is the Correct Bolt to Drain the Coolant?  In the Owners Manual on Page 6-12 (Middle Diagram), it shows the Coolant Drain Bolt as Number 1, pointing to the lower bolt, surely the Coolant Drain Bolt is the one above with the washer under it?

From someone who's replaced the Coolant, Which one is it Please?

Thanks

I just answered the other post where you asked!!

Drainage bolts tend to be at the lowest point possible!

On my diagram the nut with the copper washer is indicated (possible confusion arises from the line crossing another that represents part of the casing and that ends at one of the bolt holes for the sprocket cover).
But I do as Paul1606 suggests and undo the hose instead.

Okey Cokey, Thanks.

Fazerrider - Can I ask what year is your bike/manual, mines a 2000 Bike, (Manual 5DM-28199-E1), maybe if yours is newer they have corrected it.  Although I did go on the download section on FOC-U and that is the same as mine?

Paul1606 - Thanks, Duh I hadn't thought of that , sometimes the simplest option is the one that is hardest to see...

The Manual Recommends flushing out with water, I was going to shove the hose pipe down it the flush all the crap out...?

It also says to disconnect the overflow pipe ( the one that exits by the radiator filler cap and goes to the expansion tank ) and pull it down  to drain that...  Why do they say that? - surely all the water will flow out down to the lowest point, in this case, like you say the lower hose)?

yeah just take the cap off the thermostat and pull the bottom hose off. have a bucket ready! you can flush it out with a hose if the coolant is old

Hi Fubar,
My bike and manual are the 1998 versions, the page I was referring to is 3-27 (page 84 of the pdf).
