Another cooling question?
« on: 18 August 2022, 12:54:06 pm »
Anyone know why the fan starts so soon after starting? On other bikes it doesn't run until the coolant is up to temp, in the case of my Blackbird about 102°C.

Its normal, all FZS1000's have this bahvour. Put it into gear and the fan will stop, then once the the coolant gets upto temp then it will kick in etc.

I know, but why? None of my other bikes did it.

I can't remember why but I (or someone) asked Yamaha this question and was told it's to stop the fan blades warping from heat coming off the exhaust headers.

This is the correct (but equally daft) answer - although the rad is close to those headers.........

All other bikes are shite :evil .......only kidding. The fzs1000 Fazer does not have the usual  water temperature gauge, so it is good to know that the fan is being tested and is going to work. My Kawasaki cooling fan burnt out and I only found out when stuck in traffic on a really hot day, as it overheated.
