Single Seat conversion

Was a single seat conversion ever made for the FZS Fazers? More likely as an aftermarket part (including rear fairing)?

 Do you mean like this? It looks like a single seat not just a cover, although I don't know if you'll find one now. It's called the Gimbel vario if that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. Wasn't expecting there to be much out there, however that is an interesting alternative.  ^
Looks to keep the depth of the original 'double' seat, assume for comfort plus retain familiarity with the original item.

This actually makes the bike look more retro plus aged. Taking the cosmetics of the bike in the opposite direction to how I want it to look.
Was looking for something more Sporty, like a more modern Sports bike single seat fairing.

Might look into the leather seat covers that are readily available, to add a little more style.

I had one but did not like it. Wasn't like the one posted - that looks good. It was one that incorporated the grab rail holes and was attached using them. The whole thing made the bike back end look fat and it looked like an extra attached to the bike (which it was). I brought it on ebay and sold it on within a week.I would give up looking if I were you as that one posted is defiantly more sporty than the one I had.

Thanks fazersharp. Suppose the Fazer isn't an aspiring Sports bike, hence the lack of options from this respect.

Taking this to the extreme, a Tail swap might be considered, but wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly decent bike, by chopping up the frame.

it was the one thing that stopped me from doing the single seat swap on mine - did it on the really old fz600 though as it had a removable subframe so i just bought a spare off ebay and sliced that up and added a few connectors so i could swap between the two as and when i needed two seats - hmm theres an idea - plug weld some bolt on points so you have the worlds first removable subframe fzs

I was commenting on a lot of your early videos, but didn't want to appear to be spamming your channel, so stopped.

Yes this is the "limitation" of these early fazers, no separate rear subframe. 1 big welded frame - which does look clean though.
"worlds first removable subframe fzs" - would be a FOC-U first too.

I took my bike infact to a custom motorcycle fabricator, who commented it would ruin a perfectly decent bike, cutting off the seat tubing to weld on a new rear end. Plus he'd not be able to match the paint either, so might be a noticeable colour difference.

If I was ever to go down that path, will put up a build progress thread here.

Hi fazersharp - many thanks for posting the pictures! I really like that! 
It's got that characteristic tail hump shape of Sports bikes, while reducing the profile of the LONG Fazer seat.

Looks decent in those pictures, perhaps not so great in the flesh (as you say).

So that is a cowl that is covering the complete original Fazer rear fairing? - couldn't see any "joins" from that and the original, in your photos.
If you could point me at the (ebay) seller, I might be interested.

Look at the last picture big if you can you can see just above the YAMAHA on the back the cowl "thins out, you can see the line, also it only goes half way down the side panels again look at the last picture and zoom in and you can see the line of the edge of the cowl. Chances of chafing the oem side panel's there too.
It was a private sale on ebay and not a seller as such.   

Also what helps is that if you notice I have moved the numberplate over the oem reflector and cut off the rest of the otherwise protruding mud guard. IMO that in its self makes the back look more sporty.

Here in detailAfter I decided not to keep it I left the grab rails off and covered the holes and was happy with it like that.

Thanks for going into the fitment of the cowl in greater detail. Plus looking more closely (the edited photo above) I do now see how that cowl sat ontop of the original tail fairing. As you say, looked like an "extra attachment".

Perhaps a perfectionist might have considered getting that piece glued then blended (with filler) to the original and sprayed. But a lot of effort, just for a cosmetic change.

My bike has an aftermarket undertray, plus the original numberplate plastics are gone (I elaborated on how I did that in another thread). So it is looking smooth back there, plus uncluttered.

i see it now. i toyed with the  undertray idea but my issue was that with a black bike you cannot really see it like you would in any other colour. mucky under there - what about a hugger.

Yes a bike does tend to get a bit mucky when riding this time of year
