On the one hand I think its a neat idea and then on the other hand it might look a bit naff, maybe it works on the bike. never seen it done before ( or since )
 It was taken at a local bike meet a couple of years ago.

Looks naff to me personally but if the person who owns the bike is happy 
They must have been really bored one day, would have taken some time to do it.

That stuff was being flogged at the N. E. C bike show a few years back. It was the usual case of looking great in their promo pictures but in really life it looked shite.

Would you use the same paint on the individual chainlinks too?

I used black paint between the treads on my tyres and grey on the individual chain links and no one ever noticed it
