Metzeler Roadtec 01
« on: 24 March 2017, 09:31:53 am »
Recently changed the ageing Bridgestones on my bargain basement FZ6 to a set of Metzeler's latest Roadtec 01 tyres and my bike is transformed!

Sure, tyre technology has moved on but as I use my Fazer in all weathers for commuting and a few spirited weekend blasts, needed something that worked everywhere, including greasy London roads.

Wet weather performance is incredible — hardly any warm-up time and none of that vague 'don't want to turn' feeling for the first few miles. Totally confident on the 'cleaner' wet roads and even in town amid all the usual urban detritus I've had no slips or slides — yet.

Dry performance is good too, up there with sports tyres of just a few years ago — pegs down tells me I've enough grip anyway!

They've certainly changed my view of sports touring tyres anyway — plus they've lasted well with no signs of squaring off 2,000 miles later. Properly impressed, really can't recommend these excellent hoops enough!

I have been on Metzelers for a few years, incredible tyres,,,also the class I am going to race in has a control tyre we all have to use ,,and it's Metzeler  Racetec rr , treaded,,well hardly much tread  ,but a choice of soft, med or hard so pleased with that.

Will need tyres soon and my choice will be between the Roadtec 01s and T30 Evos. Have used Bridgestones for the last 20 years on all my sport bikes, on the premise that once your happy with a manufacurer you're loathe to try someone else, although my Fazer came with Maxxis Diamonds and they've been fine. However my old GS1150 Beemer came with Metzeler Tourances and I stuck with them for the 11 years I had the bike and thought they were amazing considering that tread pattern is so "blocky" but were so confidence inspiring........Yep.Decided it will be the Roadtecs.

Thanks maddog04, I'll add the PR4s on the list. Don't think I've had Michelins since Hi Sports in the mid 90's.

there's a big thread on tyres mate, just do a search

the pilot 2 and 3's were vg by all accounts, the 4 is the latest in the pilot range and they appear to just get better each time they upgrade

Thanks maddog. I had read through it but was getting swayed towards the Metzelers after MCN's rave review, but am well aware of their bias especially if they're getting free stuff. :lol

Agreed, the Michelins are very good and have come a long way since the the old Hi-Sports (Hi-sides as we used to call them...) but I still prefer the Metzelers. Warm-up is incredible and wet weather performance best I've tested on a road tyre.

Totally agree with your caution over press bias due to advertisers and freebies but I think they've got it right this time!
