Fazer gearboxes are a bit like that My FZS6 was like it and my FZ6S2 is the same

Take your time changing down and always get it finished before you come to a standstill

As dolau suggests, make sure you finish block-shifting before you come to a halt, that way, as you've found, you can just let the clutch out a bit and the gears should re-engage to let you flick it back up into neutral.

Christ, the last time I dropped 3 gears in one go I locked up the rear end on an approach to a roundabout, left a 50 yard skid-mark behind me that _wasn't_ rubber !

Not sure about anyone else but I always make sure I let the clutch out slightly for every shift to make sure the gears mesh correctly ready for the next shift. I'm pretty sure thats how I was taught when I learnt during the summer and ive never had a problem unless I manage to fail and not kick the leaver up enough - makes a horrible grind when that happens but it pops back in pretty much immediately.

My gear changes always felt wrong until i went on an advanced riding coursed.

They said i need to blip the throttle before i changed down, since doing it, its smooth as hell  ;)

As fazerjake say's blip the throttle on the way down makes all the difference, and use the gears to adjust your speed utilising engine braking,
I can't think of a time when I would want to go down 6th to 1st in one go, saying that though last bike had a gear indicator on it ,I'm always forgetting what gear I'm in and trying to pull off in too high a gear...
