Thinking of buying a fazer???
« on: 07 January 2017, 06:39:51 pm »
Hi and happy new year to you all.

I am joining because I am thinking of buying a Fazer FZS 600 or 1000 and need some advise from the experts. I am attracted to the Fazers as they look different and I can see it would be a good choice for use on track, touring and ride outs. My budget is about £1500 with my first mod being front and rear suspension.

My questions are...

What to look for when buying?

Does high milage matter? (40,000mls on 2002 FZS1000)

What are the best(cheapest) performance mods I can do?

600 or 1000?

I really appreciate your help and look forward to becoming part of the forum.

Thanks
Ash

Hi and welcome  :)
Good choice if you get one, some will say the 1000 better others the 600 but it depends what you want from a bike ?? They're both good all rounders.
I've got both and prefer the 1000 but like I said it's what you want out of it and how many ££££ you have
Theres a thread in the 1000/ fz1 section for new and prospective buyers  that's will help you on your way I don't think theres one in the 600 section but there's not a lot goes wrong with em and they're still a good little bike.
Whatever you choose the fazer is a great choice and it's a friendly helpful site with the odd piss taking but when you get one put up pics we like a picture or two

Thanks Graham, That was a great read!

Have you heard of people welding the EXUP valve open? Is this ok?

I don't recall welding it open , I've read about leaving it open and taking off the cables, and I think you'll find that opinion is divided as to why you would disconnect it with some saying it makes no noticeable difference and some that it does and as to welding it why would you ? You're a bit knackered after if you don't like it . my own opinion is that Yamaha developed it first and then everyone else seemed to copy it so there's got to be some benefit to having it.
do a search for exup valve and you'll see what I mean
By the sounds of it you seem to be leaning to the 1000

Definitely the 1000, I will get a 600 if this one falls through. I have sent you PM with link to the one I'm viewing on Monday. He is a trade seller and said that the valve was welded open.

I had the 600 before having my second thou. Had other bikes in between but found myself being pulled back to another fazer. They both really are do it all bikes. The 1000 is obv faster but the 600 is still great bike and wouldn't disappoint.  The 600 is really good on fuel too. Cheaper tax and insurance. 😊
