You say starting takes forever but it turns over ok… that doesn't sound like a starter problem, more like carbs or sparks.
Anyway, to answer the question, the starter motor is the black cylinder under carbs 3&4. If you get one probe of your multimeter on the terminal on the starter and the other probe connected to the chassis, you should get a reading of 9 to 12 volts when you thumb the starter button.

the headlight mod will not cause a problem. the reason the second bulb was disconnected by Yamaha was to get around EU rules about lights with separate reflectors. the additional drain on the battery is minimal so unless you battery/alternator are focced, it wont make a difference.

Do you use the choke when starting the bike from cold? Many people on here never use it, others have always used it on a cold engine.

Only time I use choke is when it absolutely freezing...i put new battery in on Monday..will check when I get home if it needs a boost in which case I would presume it the alternator  that's knackerd.

If it is turning over ok then try using half choke.

So I checked the battery when running it's sitting at about 14 with lights off, with them in it inly drops to 13,so that nit the issue.Tomorrow will check and balance carbs it required have ordered new plugs and fuel filter. And if I that fails will keep at it till I find out what it is :rolleyes
