Carb Cleaner

Hi All,


I remember a while back there was a discussion on here about carb/fuel cleaner.  Someone mentioned about a really good one you can get from Halfords for about £15, there are several on their site for that, does anyone remember which one was recommended?


I'm looking at a one shot thing that gives the fuel system a good cleaning with the hope of increasing performance.

I only do short runs on the way to and from work which is the main reason I use it once a year, and why I prefer it over the longer period, but if I was doing motorway runs or constant higher speed then yeah I guess it would work quite well being flushed through at speed.

You're the first person i've ever really heard compliment that stuff.


I tried it years ago for carb icing and it was no good at all for that, which is what made me do a bit of research and stumbled on the 99% Isopropyl Alcohol treatment instead, which worked very well and was way cheaper too.

IPA is only good for carb icing, not carb cleaning, as it binds with any water/moisture in the tank and burns it off as fuel, but also lowers the freezing point so will prevent icing from happening.
There's two types though, 99%+ alcohol, and the other is around 70% i think but the other 30% is water so defeats the object.

STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner is the only one of its type that i have ever had noticeable good results with before,and i've tried a few.

Cheers lads.  My plan was to wait until it warms up and ridnig more, infact I will probably wait for a lofo run where we'll do a couple of hundred miles in a day and use the stuff then.
