Clunky gearchange when warm
« on: 22 January 2016, 08:41:05 am »
My 2003 Fzs1000 changes gear very smoothly when first started and the engine and oil are cold but once warmed up the gearchange becomes noticeably more notchy

Is this a yamaha thing or sign of requiring an oil change etc?

Mine can make a noticeable clunk when going down into 1st at low speeds or standstill, but all other gears are fine.

An oil change might fix it and certainly wont hurt. What oil are you using? In my experience, the Fazer is not too fussy about oils as long as there aren't too many additives.

Clutch and chain adjustment can also help, the handbook recommends 45-55mm of slack on the chain.
