Who rebuilt my rear brake, focin lazy previous owner
« on: 11 November 2015, 08:07:35 pm »
Had split the rear caliper prior to painting as suggested by someone on here, after looking at the pistons I noticed one was further out than the other, and after trying to move it I understood why, seized rear caliper syndrome. On the bench, gently rotating said piston reviled only one seal each side, someone obviously didn't think two seals were required  :wall

Tbh the pistons look fine and hopefully the remaining seal will be OK to reuse, just hope I can source some outer seals (dust?)

It's amazing what some people do just to save a few pence. Lucky you found it and nothing serious happened.

Found a set for £3.00 for both dust and piston seals, so £6.00 plus postage wont break the bank

Found two dust seals missing from the rising rate link and one spacer/washer from the swingarm pivot.

Hope they've not been inside the engine, be lucky to find any piston rings

And all this coz someone showed you that the rear caliper split?  :rollin

You best make sure the missing seals aren't on the pistons :eek

I didn't know there was an issue with the brake, I've not ridden the thing yet, only pulled it apart to paint it (think it was yourself that suggested parting it) The outer seals (dust) are missing, piston cleaned up OK and the set ordered come with new piston and dust so be stoopid not to use them both.

Yeah and going to pull the fronts apart now, was just going to clean and copperslip them but after finding the previous owners handy work I have no choice
