STRUGLE TO START FROM COLD

so my fzs 600 1998 struggles to start from cold but after about 6 - 10 etempts it finally stays running.


any ideas folks

Put a bit of choke on first before starting, not after.


When it's warmed up make sure it's ticking over comfortably at around 1200rpm, if not adjust the idle screw.


Is your air filter in good condition?
When was it last changed, it may not be breathing efficiently?

I use no choke on mine, haven't needed it yet. I just start it with a fraction of throttle if I need too, like literally a millimetre of turn, almost catching the engine as it fires off the starter, hold it there, and the revs rise by themselves within 5/10secs and I can let go and it warms up nicely.
(Kn filter, baffleless shorty end can, carbs balanced)

Yeah, if your bike is in good shape then choke shouldn't be needed yet, i only ever use it in very cold winter weather.
That's why i think there's an issue somewhere else causing his bike to misbehave.
