Black engine paint
« on: 06 August 2015, 07:47:14 am »
So I picked up my fourth gen 1 fazer in storm silver ith black engine, great bikes, but has seen winter riding with corrosion here and there which I intend to address, the front of the engine paint is corroded in bits. And spoils the look of the bike, is it a big job getting it repainted? Want to do it over the winter to get bike back to pristine  :lol  Any input will be appreciated

There have been a few threads on that. This was one of the shorter ones:

Simonez high temperature paint is good , if you want to paint the front of the engine you will need to remove the radiator and down pipes , you can paint the rocker cover in place , lots of masking tape and newspaper , use a engine degreaser ,  lightly sand engine , no primer required , lots of threads on here about it , if you want to do it to a high standard , check out Red98s thread .

That thread covers silver, as have most of them. What about the black engines though? What's the best stuff to use? Mine has a couple of small bits where the black has gone, but not enough to worry about for now, but if anyone has a recommendation for a paint for this colour, it could be useful in the future?
