Maxxis tyres

Need new tyres for MOT,looking at Maxxis touring, anyone using these, any good ?

Good tyres - not supersports, but good enough to grind the pegs out or inspire wet-weather confidence. Ive toured on them, quite happily.

Stevierst is our resident Maxxis diamond enthusiast....swears by them even though admittedly theres a fair few dont like them.


Im giving them a try this year as a promise...ive tried Diablo 2's & pilot 3's so ill be interested to see what the maxxis are like.


Just priced up a pair at my local dealer today....£230 fitted for the FZ1.

Thanks for the feedback, been using Bridgestone 023s but Maxxis quite a bit cheaper so think I'll give em a try.

Been using both the touring tyres on my 600's, and diamonds on my litre bikes.

The touring tyres are just that, grippy enough, but treat them with a bit of respect. Sickys they are not. Done about 20k on these, commuting, a bit of touring, and I've scratched with the litre boys on them, and kept up!

Diamonds do feel funny at first, but the design and handling make sense in the real world. I give them a Damn good thrashing, and they perform very well compared to the mainstream s/t tyres. They're great from cold, superb in the wet, and I lost the hero blobs on my gen 2 with them. Got em on my r1, and my bro in law has them on his Tuono. Don't believe the haters, see for yourself!

No, no, no. Had the Maxxis Supermaxx tyres on my bike once, couldn't wait to get rid of them. Dodgy in the dry, unpredictable and gripless in the wet... Wore out fast too! Don't waste your money, get Michelin Pilot Roads.

I crashed the Maxxis too. As people endlessly remind me.  :rolleyes

No, the Maxxis didn't feel right under me, didn't like them. As I was riding daily, I knew what the bike liked and what it didn't. With the Maxxis on, it handled like a sack of shit - the rear was pretty slippy, even in the dry. PR3s were much more precise in their handling.

Don't get on with them at all well - I had them on my fzs1000 and changed for road 3s. The maxxis touring would spin up in the dry on moderate acceleration. Had their sports tyres on my 9 and they were good in the dry, Aww wore quickly and were shit in the wet as there's no tread on the edge of them

I hated my Maxxis rear. Slipped out at every opportunity and wore out faster than it should have. Never inspired confidence in corners and terrifying in the wet. Never again. On Pirelli Angel ST's now. The change felt like getting a new bike. I don't understand why people trust Maxxis, but perhaps it's the riding style. I tour mostly (thousands of miles at a time). My style is spirited but not track or racing, so perhaps that explains the difference of opinion.

S'funny how opinions differ. I have Diamond Maxxes, which I bought due to the price, and I think they're fine as a pair. I would like something stickier though just for my peace of mind not because there's anything wrong. I don't reckon they're going to last long though.

They tend to wear about the same as other s/t tyres tbh. I saw 3500 out of two rear tyres on the fz1. Only got 3k out of pr3's, and contimotions.

They gripped better from cold than both mentioned above, and were cracking in the wet.
They do feel a bit odd at first, but the more you ride them, the more they make sense on the road.

I went out recently (first time for a couple of weeks). I noticed the front tyre felt a little soft. Feel came back so I didn't worry too much. Next day I checked the pressure and it was 10.5 :eek :eek :eek. Are these tyres that strong? That is impressive. Usually I would notice when pressure drops 2-4 psi or so.
