Noisey 2nd gear question ?
« on: 15 April 2015, 09:57:17 pm »
Picked up a 1998 fazer (30'000 on the clock) serviced a week before I got it, new cam chain tensioner/oil etc etc. It runs very well, although I need to get it rejetted and dynoed with the can I have on it now as its a little burbly  :) The question I have is regarding 2nd gear, between 1-4000rpm there is a whining noise only in this particular gear. As far as feel and delivery goes there is no issue with gear selection or hesitation on the throttle, so I'm wondering why it would be noisey just in that gear at those RPMs?! Quite strange. I managed to drop it off its side stand on uneven ground last week, half caught it on the way down but it still hit the deck with a bit of a thud... I'm wondering if this might have shifted something in the engine? Gearbox? Any ideas ?

They do generally have a gear box that whines, if it runs and feels okay i wouldn't worry about it.

Don't bother with re-jetting, you're wasting your time in my opinion, i tried it and had to have it put back to standard.

A K&N air filter, then a carb balance will do more good.

If you haven't got one already, get a K&N filter first though, then do the balance, the filter makes a big difference in throttle response and it's just the right order of doing things.  :thumbup
