MT-09 forks?

Just been having a gander at the MT-09 on MCN - with 41mm forks (like the Fazers), and the 120/70R17 wheel it might be popular in the future for USD mods - or am I missing something?

Be interesting to park an MT next to a Fazer 6 to check fork height. That means you, yer flash gits with Tracers!

No no no, they are 41mm USD forks, not right way up. More like 50/52mm up top where the yokes are. So you'd also need different yokes & front wheel and blah blah blah
Only 41mm Thundercat and TRX850 forks swap over relatively easily AFAIK

Yeah, I realise you'd need all that - hence why I mentioned the 120 wheel. But with forks the same size, it could fit the Fazer well. All I was suggesting was that MT front ends may be worth considering instead of R1 etc.

Only thing they've got in common in terms of swapping Christo is they're both made by Yamaha - get a custom stem made (any machine shop can do it for about £30 odd) and you can fit whatever you want really.


The 41mm is stanchion size - not where they bolt into the yokes on the MT

ChristoT - the early R1 4XV USDforks also have 41mm diameter lowers and will fit the FZS600 just as easily

However, the problem with many Fazers going for USD forks is finding forks the right length. The MT might be quite suitable here! And the fact that it has 41mm forks means it should suit the bike size-wise and weight-wise.

The MT front end is an option that those seeking USD conversions may like. Also looks like you can fit standard bars rather than clipons.

I saw useful information, thought I'd share. 

There are often "what forks should I use" threads for USD conversions, just thought I'd throw up another alternative - that might suit the Fazers quite well.

Any thoughts on the MT-09 as a bike? Hearing good things about it, even being compared to a Fazer. Still keeping my 02 Fazer, but I did wonder, grass being greener and all that????

I know it didn't get great reviews suspension wise.
But it's cheap and a 900, reviews suggested it was a pretty good value bike.
188kg wet or something i heard too so it's light, although there isn't much hanging off it so you'd hope so.
I've only looked at them in the shop though so this is probably zero help


It's called FZ09 in the USA so probably natural to have it compared to Fazer ay?

mt09 sweet engine crap suspension, i still love my fazer more, mt09 for track use only now.

I'd rate the mt-09 over the speed triple any day. The street triple is a bit different though apparently.

Still, the mt-09 is a cracking bike despite it's few faults. Best fun I've had on two wheels put it that way.
