calling Stevierst
« on: 25 February 2015, 08:43:25 am »
alright pal, need some advice and its not crystal clear after looking on the web

mum in law is nearing 76 and I just saw the news about renewing your licence from 70 every three years, google search says 90 days before 70th birthday DVLA will notify you with a reminder........does this reminder happen at 73/76/79 etc or is the onus now on the individual?

cheers

Due to a medical condition I have to renew my licence every 3 years, DVLA usually inform me when it is due, although a couple of years ago I noticed my licence had expired with no reminder, when I contacted them I was told they don't always inform you and it is your own responsibility.

I think you will find the onus is on the individual to keep up to date, ignorance of the law is not a defence.

Apparently there are more than 1 million people running around with the photo licence that has expired because they forgot to renew at 10 years.

Also with no driving licence your insurance will most likely not pay out.

:agree
If she gets a reminder that's fine, but either way as said above.
