Key help
« on: 06 September 2014, 03:48:21 pm »
hi there...

my fazer has developed an issue when I try to turn the key to the on position... well basically it won't do it.

the key goes into the barrel no problem, and it turns to the left OK (for locking it) but it's now getting really hard to turn it on to be able to start the bike...

it left me stranded for half an hour today before I managed to get it working...

I only have 1 key, so can't try the other one.... but it sounds like a barrel issue? is this a common fault, and is there anything that can be done to fix it without the need for a new barrel??

thanks!

Pull the steering fully to the left before pushing down and turning the key.

Also, buy some of this stuff, you probably could find it in hardware shops too. It makes a big difference.

take your key and get another one cut at Timpsons Cuey. The keys/barrels are made of cheese on these bikes, so a fresh key might work a bit better (the graphite spray above helps a lot too :) )

is your key even slightly bent? mine is,and it goes in the barrel fine, but can be a bugger to turn to the ON position, going to get 2 new keys cut on wednesday and just ordered some of that Grafite spray stuff, that might even make the steering lock work hopefully!!

These guys can cut spare keys from the original key number or if you not got the number they can make a copy from a photo http://keysinthepost.com

this is by far the better of the two key cuts: copy of the key you already have or cut of the registered key number. If your source key is knackered - especially if its a cut of a cut of the original! - then knackered will be your new key ! bit obvious really.
