My daughter has just  had to download two singles for an Aunties funeral, she put them onto cd for the church player.Glen Millar,,and Whitney Houston,,

A few years ago I was at a young lads funeral and both songs were AC / DC.


A friend of mine died of a heart attack on his way to the boozer, the only song that was sung was Little ol wine drinker. He was an alcoholic !! A 3 day send off followed.

Dunno if the rules have changed  but when our dad died about 5 years ago, we were only allowed to use the original CD. Couldnt use Ipod, MP3, recordable CD etc in case it had been downloaded illegally.

It must depend on the place then, as I've made CD's for 2 funerals in the last 5 years, and questions have never been asked.

I made a CD for my Grandads funeral 5 years ago and have been asked by the family to pull together the one for my Nan too. only three tracks each time and I still cannot listen to Rod Stewart "I am Sailing" without a tear in my eye. Fec knows how I am going to manage on Monday when "Come on Eileen" gets played.

My mother died last year, when we went to the funeral directors he asked us what music we'd like for mums funeral. He had a directory of thousands of songs to choose from.

Are you sure about that story Gingernutz - the one I heard about was a woman who asked for the Robin Hood theme for her wedding (Bryan Adams version) and got the TV series "Robin Hood....Riding though the Glen" version.


When my dad died, he h'd already planned his funeral music - the theme from The Great Escape, his favourite movie and his favourite heroes. When we started to carry out the coffin at double-time in tune with the music, everyone in the just church just fell about laughing & crying - that really had the desired effect of really lightening the mood.


As the title said, he'd just made "the great escape" - awesome dude, with a cantankerous sense of humour and irony, but above all an inspiration. When he was diagnosed with terminal liver/kidney cancer at 73, he went straight out and bought himself a GSX 600 and spent every weekend he could out riding with me, my brother and our mates, continually telling my brother to speed up and stop holding him back. He kept riding until he was too weak to hold the bike up at a standstill  - man, do I miss him.  :-(

We've been to a few funerals recently, which gets you talking about your own. I'm adamant mine isn't going to be as glum as the wife's grandad's funeral. I told her there and then, while everybody was sat slurping a pint looking like the sky was going to fall in, that mine had better have some punk music playing in the church, and there had better be a band playing at the wake. Anybody looking glum gets thrown out.
