car battery acid

Stuuupid question time again. I bought a battery for the project bike and it was delivered in double quick time. But without acid - is this normal? If so where am I meant to buy the acid?

I thought I would try to find out for you, so I went to the pub and asked about for someone to buy acid off. I think I remember getting some, but then one of those pink, floating barstools engaged me in conversation while everyone in the pub started talking swahili. I tried to remember why I was there, but 12 penguins stole my trousers and now Im made of rubber...

Hate to say it, but you tried Halfrauds?
Other option is find a decent wee independent repair place and ask them.
Worst case, Kwik Fit.

I thought they had dry acid in and you just had to add distilled water. Hate to ask but have you read the destructions?

All batteries are sold "dry charged". Just add deionized (cold boiled or distilled) water. They charge.

    What colour is the sky in your world???   Have you ever handled any 'dry' sulphuric acid?? . Its called 'oil of vitriol' and it behaves like the 'alien blood' in the movie.   You need to add acid to a dry battery.

Who on earth supplies a wet battery without the acid anyway?  You either buy a sealed, filled battery or a dry one that should come with a bottle of acid.

That's not quite how battery acid works ... Hydrogen Sulphate is the "alien blood" that I described above. Its tricky stuff to handle (water boils on contact with it) and you can easily use it to make a nice variety of high explosives    (gun cotton, for example).
They don't put it in dry batteries.
 
They do however come "dry charged" which means that the plates contain oxide and lead in the right places.
Add acid - you get a charged battery.
Add water - you get a paperweight.
