Power Down
« on: 02 April 2014, 11:52:47 am »
My mighty fazer though made its 2014 debut last week after been stored up for hibernation during the long Scottish winter of 5 months. I used a fuel stabiliser and battery on optimiser and kept it in my warm dry garage.

I had a bit of bother with the exup, rev counter going to 7k but this was due to the motor sticking and is now working as it should, valve and cables are all perfect.

I took it easy for the first good few miles to get her warmed up, get rid of any stale fuel and break her in. When opening her up I thought it was picking a bit a bit slower than usual but was definitely down on top end.

Any ideas what could cause this before I go and get it dyno'd

i injured my left knee quite badly last summer and couldn't ride for some months. when eventually the swelling subsided and i could ride again the fazer was reluctant to rev freely and was definitely down on power. some 'spirited' riding and a good motorway blast saw it running well again.

the other usual suspect is something (partially) blocking the air intake under the seat.
is it clean enough?

Are you sure the exup is opening fully, as you said that it was sticking? A good run to get it really heated up may sort it. Put super unleaded in the tank to freshen old fuel.
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

Another vote for re-checking the EXUP.  The servo motor doesn't usually stick which makes me wonder if something else was amiss.  Like you misadvertently connected the cables up bass-ackwards, for instance. ;)

After that, fresh fuel and check that a McMouse didn't decide to hibernate in the air filter.
