ACF 50

OK - over the harsh unforgiving wet as hell winter, i didn't exactly lavish my Fazer with a huge amount of attention.  Sometime in February when it stopped raining, i dragged the old girl out (the bike) and noticed that the rear sprocket, chain, crash bar fixings, callipers, exhaust, cylinder head, front forks and various other bits all looked rather tired. Just realised i have pretty much described ALL of the bike there   


Last weekend i went mad with a bottle of ACF 50 and have to say the results were ruddy marvellous.  Obviously i didn't use on the brakes and understanding that its not a polish, i was pleased to see the results and i seep knowing that it is protected from the merest hint of moisture!


Looking forward to taking her out from Morecambe to Whitby this weekend!

Now that looks clean  ... Isnt acf50 meant to be put on a bike and left there to keep out the weather? never pictured it as a cleaner..

You're absolutely right but i was distraught after seeing it after being left sat for so long that i went i bit OTT in ensuring minimal risk of future moisture ingress 


Cleaned her up first then used the ACF50 as a sort of polish.

No its just there is more of a kind of a wet look going on, one ride and the stuff on the engine will be gone in a cloud of smelly smoke (which I like )

It'll burn off the exhaust as i smoked out my garage but engine block pretty much as picture.

Good point there.  Due a ride out over the weekend so i'll see how it fares.

Thats when I prefer fs365  or gt85 as it washes off easily to get the bike looking clean again. Then just reapply until a proper thorough coat of ACF50 when winter comes round.

When I first looked into ACF 50 I was given the impression fromm all the bumpf that it would dry and leave behind a protective coat but it just stays a tacky mess

That's true but its a tacky mess that saves exposed metal turning to shite.

Thats when I prefer fs365  or gt85 as it washes off easily to get the bike looking clean again. Then just reapply until a proper thorough coat of ACF50 when winter comes round.

I would say dip your bike in ACF-50 in November and wash it off in April. There is no doubt it works but I just think it is messy and im not sure on the merits of putting it on perfectly good paintwork.
I am lucky though in that I dont have to ride in all weathers.

I know the test you mean and it misses the point completely.

FS365 is a quick spray on coating meant to be a very short term treatment. The idea us you wasg the crap off your bike and coat in 365, repeat. Its not marketed as an ACF50 style long term treatment, but a constant repeat application approach.

That test doesn't take into account the repeated cleaning and applying cycles, so is a very unfair test.

If that is the case you should be washing and reapplying every 12 hours, because within 24 hrs it was very rusty.

Spraying mild steel with salt water will obviously result in that.

If you ride your bike through brine regularly in summer I hope you do use ACF50

As I say you can't beat it for winter use, but fs365 is an ok temporary coating between washes when you're summer riding and want to keep the bike looking smart.
