FZS600 Fazer / updated speedo issues
« on: 25 July 2014, 01:16:20 pm »
A few months back I messaged with speedo issues... I managed to work it down to needing a new sensor.....  But after 3 months no speedo working I get a new one through the post but on my way to a mates house to get it fitted my old one started working again.....

Now it's intermittent and occasionally comes on and off in time with the indicators...  After asking about it I'm being told that it sounds like a bad earth wire....

So my question is... Where are the earth wires located for me to clean or replace....

Thanks again....  Dave.

Ps... Bike is a 98 fzs600.

FZS600 Fazer / Dreaded Speedo Issues
« on: 13 March 2014, 11:11:18 am »
good after morning fellow bikers...

another issue for me im afraid but it's not as bad as the last one....

My speedo died just went from 40mph to 0mph and stayed there... and is still there weeks later...

had front wheel off due to 90% of the time it's the lugs on the sensor unit... but they are fine and not broken.. next i checked fuses and they are all fine..

I have even tried replacing the whole clock unit itself and the issue still remains.. taken the clocks apart to look for anything broken and nothing... rev counter works normal and so does the fuel gauge....

suppose next thing to try is the speedo sender unit it's self but finding a cheap second hand one is like rocking horse poop lately.. and still no guarantee it would be that...

wire seems fine and not worn or broken..

Anything else i could try guys?

well sorry for the very extremely late reply... but after weeks of rebuilding... it turned out to be the immobilisor that was cutting out the engine... even the slightest knock on the box would cut the engine...so have removed immobilisor and fitted a new alarm system instead...

appreciate all your help on the matter guys... but i now have a new matter that needs looking into.. will post new thread lol..

FZS600 Fazer / Intermittent Cut Out

good morning.. i have a 1998 fzs600 i have owned it since september last year.. no issues untill a few weeks ago when the speedo just randomly died (had wheel off no issues with "ears" )... so will fix that buy purchasing a new speedo unit.

secondly and this is the thing that is bugging the crap outta me is that my engine will cut out without warning at random intervals i could be a mile from the house or i could be 20 miles from the house...i coast to side of the road try to start it and nothing.. It will crank but wont start (no spark) as i tested all HT leads with a working plug against engine casing and nothing...

I have to wait up to an hour before i can start it again and even then its the same problem i have no idea how far i am going to get before it happens again... last week for example it took me almost 3 hours to do a 15 min journey.

there is no warning that it will cut out it just does it...

was thinking fuel problem at first before i tested the spark issue.. changed filter checked hoses and cleaned carbs.

So i am led to a electrical issue and i am no good with electrics don't even own a multimeter.

Bike was serviced after these issues started as i was hoping that it would solve the problem plugs were changed aswell then...

sidestand switch and kill switch all seem to be in fine condition..

any advice would be very helpfull as i am baffled by the problem as i have never had it on any of my other bikes and i dont want to pay a garage £££'s to sort it just yet when i might be able get to the problem myself.. with some help off you lovely people of course..

cheers in advance
