Re the Mini damp problems, is it fitted with a shield in front of the distributor? It was a well known problem on the Minis and an aftermarket shield does the trick..

Just keeps the spray and crap off the dizzy.

I'm on xbox live, although I'm more into Halo 4 and Call of Duty Black Ops. I've got the beta for the new Battlefield game though.

OneManAndHisGun is my gamertag.

Getting some very strong gusts here in south London. Bikes are all tucked away in the garage.

Have a good look at the battery terminals and the leads on the bike. If they're dirty / corroded then that's not going to help.

Ignore it, Laura got one for stopping in a car park at a ferry port to drop someone off.... They will send you letters threatening stuff and ever increasing fines but at the end of the day they haven't got the power to do anything so just bin the letters

NO!! This is wrong, things have changed and the advice to ignore PCNs is no longer correct. Parking companies ARE taking people to court now, but their paperwork trail and compliance with the regulations they have to follow is so poor it is simple to defeat them long before it gets that far.

Tori, please read and post on the MSE forum where you will get informed advice from people who do this all day long.

General / Re: Urgent legal advise !

Lez - that's more or less the point, they can't gauge it unless the vehicle is inspected. If you made a claim, an assessor usually attends to check the damage. If they see a well maintained,  serviced vehicle with an MOT tests that's a few days out, they're not going to cancel the insurance - they can't.

However, if they saw a rusty pile of shite that hasn't seen a service  or been mainatined for the last 360 days but has an MOT, they could.

Simply not having an MOT does not invalidate your insurance.

More importantly, if a vehicle is being driven on a road without a current, valid MOT then your insurance can become invalid.

Sorry, but that's wrong. An insurance company cannot invalidate insurance for having no MOT. Nearly all companies refer to "roadworthiness" in the policy wording, nothing about MOT; only a very few stipulate this. Just checked the three policies I have and they don't mention MOT and it's accepted that an MOT certificate is not proof of roadworthiness. In any case, you'd only be asked to send the MOT if the car was written off and at most, you'd get a lower valuation.

Google it if you don't believe me.

Snapper, I wouldn't bother taking this any further. The lorry certainly won't have been damaged and the chances of the lorry driver admitting to his company he's had a prang and/or recording your wife's reg number are almost zero. If your wife got no details of the lorry, the police aren't going to be interested. If you claim on the insurance, then your excess will probably be the cost of the repair and you can look forward to an increased premium next year and possible loss of no claims bonus.

Yep welcome to the "been there done that" club. You have to make sure the plate seats properly, keep turning it round until it does.

Anything circulated on the internet that says "This is an actual..." or "real story" or "100% genuine"  is almost always complete made-up bollocks.

A J Sutton to the rescue. Love this site for the diagrams if nothing else - but they give excellent service too...

You can see the ball bearing - No.19 - and if you need a new one, order it from the site

Anyway, ignore, ignore, ignore and they'll go away.

No, no and no!!! Things have changed and that advice is no longer correct.

Tori get on the MSE forum or Pepipoo and get some proper advice from people who really know what they're talking about! The PCN is easily defeated, you just need to go about it the right way.

Sorry to say this, but don't ignore it and get yourself over to the Money Saving Expert forum...

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

That's their Parking Fine forum and the people on it know their stuff. Read through the forum first as Met parking come up a lot, but there's excellent advice and standard letters for replying to the company.

And McDonald's will probably have something to say about it if you were bringing them good money for the evening.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Looking for advice on my sh*tty head lamp...
« on: 13 September 2013, 08:15:37 pm »
I have a foxeye with the dual headlamp mod. A pair of the Phillips Xtreme vision bulbs and the headlamps are superb at night.

HIDS are useless - they're not properly designed for the reflectors and produce a blob of light that isn't properly aimed and dazzles other drivers  / riders. An expensive waste of money.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: My Foxeye now on eBay
« on: 13 September 2013, 08:36:25 am »
LOL - if only. I, like the Fazer, it's a good little bike, but it doesn't do the daily commute or the long two up trips as easily as the XJ900's do. I can go round corners in second, or even third and pull away from 1500 revs on the XJ that I'm having to go down into first on the Fazer. And there's no mucking about with chains and Scottoilers etc.

My mate has the same bike but his commute is mainly motorway and an A - road to his office and he loves it. Probably what its ideal for - not the back streets of SE London.

That's ridiculous - you'd never get up to 20mph in the City

General / Re: Bike Trader Scammers
« on: 10 September 2013, 06:40:11 pm »
No, no and no. Cash on collection only. Never, ever let your bike go to a courier or a "shipper" and take a Paypal payment. Within a day or two the buyer will open a dispute and Paypal will refund them, they close their account and disappear - and you've lost your bike.

General / Re: Ever seen anything so idiotic?
« on: 03 August 2013, 03:03:58 pm »
There's a known phenomenon where drivers / riders on motorways etc don't realise vehicles are stationary and just plough into them. I get the feeling this might have happened as it looked at first glance to be one lorry overtaking another at 50-60mph. If you watch the video back I think you may see what I mean.

Or is there room to get a tack weld on each break just to hold them until you get back?

I'm guessing it's a Russian video as they seem to have cams by default. The lorries and other cars look similar to other Russian vids.

General / Re: Legal advise needed guys (sorry not fazer related)
« on: 24 July 2013, 08:53:23 pm »
Either tell him to go away or offer a full refund and the vehicle back. Don't give him some of the money back. That way you can sort the damp out (if there really is any) in your own time and at your own cost. Then you can sell it for a proper price.

Add to that some of the country road that don't get a lot spent on them turn into liquid tar in places when they've had the sun on them all day. Makes for some interesting cornering.

General / Re: If you didn't have to wear a helmet, would you?
« on: 19 July 2013, 03:39:20 pm »
Funnily enough I picked up a copy of the Motorcycle Action Group's magazine in the bike shop waiting for an MOT. It was from last year and I haven't seen anything of them for about 20 years (I know they've been out there though) - but they're still banging on about the helmet law. It made me laugh, nothing like flogging a dead horse. And it was a nice glossy magazine - with that awful stuck-in-the-70's logo on the front.

I have alot of hearing damage, my ear drum vibrates hard now in loud places,i have to put my fingers in my ears when the loud starts

I was going to suggest this as a simple alternatives to earplugs etc when riding. However I realised that would be daft as you'd have to drill large holes in your crash helmet to do it.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: balancing carbs - easy ?
« on: 13 July 2013, 10:16:09 am »
I found I could leave the tank on, but lift it from the front and prop it up. But make sure there's less than half a tank of fuel or it leaks out of the breather.

It's fairly easy - the only hard part is actually finding the balancing screws, but if you follow the guide posted above, it makes life simpler.
