« on: 30 January 2016, 08:16:07 pm »Agrees with BBROWN. Instead of pulling the master cylinder to bits and spending a sum of money on it plus the agro of having to do it, go for a ride instead.
I'm not keen to pull things to bits if I don't have to. Don't want to spend money if I don't need to as well. It's more of a 'preventive maintenance' if there is something like this for 14 years old machine? I plan longer trip in May- a few thousands miles so probably get a little paranoid about 'what if'.
I'll have a look as Gnasher suggested and I'll take it from there. Bike is fine, serves me well for the past few years and I hope it'll stay this way.

There's nothing wrong (I think) with my brakes but I wonder if I should replace seals on the front master cylinder if they haven't been touched for at least 4 years? If so, which kit to go for?

For Fazer 2002...
As per:
- Haynes 98-01 4,000 miles (6,000km) or 6 months.
- Owner's Manual printed in 2001 (supplied with my bike) 10,000 km (6,000 miles)
- Owner's Manual PDF from 2002 10,000 km (6,000 miles)
Usually it's not a problem as I change around 3-4k miles but I plan longer trip which will take me closer to 5k miles. Probably not a biggy for the bike (I hope it's not a biggy) but I wonder what's right? Someone mentioned Yam changed oil intervals for later bikes so the question is: what is the 'as per book' interval for 2002?

« on: 17 January 2016, 03:53:03 pm »I ride 365 and clean the calipers once a month (2,000 miles) in winter (rain, shite, salt etc). Tends to be every 3 months in better weather.
Looks like you're on about 20k miles pa? What's the millage on your bike? I've seen many users reporting 80-100k no problem.

Based on your feedback regarding the way they behave on your bike - I want 'your' pads! So going with 1054s I will get 'upgraded' 1651s - same as yours...

You can't possibly get any nicer than the ones i'm using, they literally don't seem to wear anything out at all.
Darssi, so are yours definitely 1375's? sintered not semi metallic?

I came across a few of your posts regarding pads. I can't find the G1651 compound on Galfer's chart - do you know if they've been superseded by G1054 as it's also semi metallic compound? Galfer's website describes them as GG rated.

I plan to replace my SBS Ceramics soon. I'm tempted by Galfers but wonder which compound do you usually go for?

Is G1054 going to be softer/more spongy on the lever than SBS Ceramics? I believe G1370 will be sharper than SBSs.
Searched through the forum and I've got impression people use both Galfer compounds, or mainly Sintered G1370?
For usage and condition: I'm on OEM discs with 35k on the bike. I'd like next pads to be kind to my discs. Mainly commuting and some weekend foccing around in Scotland. I also plan 4000 miles trip this year.

Probably is darrsi but I have an impression it was the best way to spend 10 quid on this bike

Always wanted one but never committed to until 3 years ago at age of 36 I said to myself: it's time! Done direct access. Bought FZS600 as first bike from a friend.
