FZS600 Fazer / Re: Carb rubber query
« on: 07 August 2023, 02:45:08 pm »
Seem to remember when I refurbished my carbs a couple of years ago there is a slight step where the carb' 'stubs' abut up to the rubber inlet tubes.  This does't affect the running of the engine at all.

Had similar probs with mine a few years ago, after standing over winter. By thoroughly draining all old fuel from carbs, fuel pump and tank and refiling  with fresh super E5. cured it.

Yes all fair points I guess but I will be 82 by then so unlikely to still be riding!

My insurance through Ageas is called "Future Classic Vintage" but maybe we have to go another 10 years to match the RD. Perhaps to be a classic part of it is how rare they are ?
My bike is May 1998 we had a thing a few years ago to find the oldest fazer and if \I remember right it was mine - by a few days. I think the bike in the UK was released in May ?. Although I brought it 3 years later.

FZS600 Fazer / Classic status

Not been on here for some while, so someone may have asked this question previously. Why hasn't the FZS600 attained the sought after cult type following that the RD250 / RD350 (for instance) has?   After all the Fazer is a good looking reliable classic bike every bit as desirable as the earlier strokers, in my opinion.  I,ve had my FZS600 from new (13/06/1998) and it's still a nice bike to ride, still all original, pristine condition, passed every MOT first time, but It seems that at 25years old it's only worth about £2K. Surely these early Fazers are undervalued as the RD's are fetching £5k - £10K!  Thoughts? :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Carb Inlet Rubbers

A few years ago I took my Fazer to a main dealer's workshop to get the carbs balanced (I felt the tick over had gone off a bit). They said it wasn't posible to do because the inlet rubbers were cracked.  Later I had the inlets off to find that the cracking was superficial. Just for cosmetic reasons I smeared some black silicone sealant around the outside surface, reassembled and balanced the carbs myself. The bike still runs perfectly today.

Well you will probably wince when I say that I've only done 19,000 miles since new!  My excuse is that i've had a lot of toys in my toy box in that time also.  Obviously it's been meticulously maintained by me (never been stealer serviced).  Nothing much has gone wrong except the battery which failed after 15 years.  It's still in standard condition, original exhaust ect.  Only mods I've done are lowering it (I'm 5' 2") and fitting heated grips and Baglux tank bag cover.
Nearly 21 years (June 1998 I bought it). Still a good un.  Only bike I have.
I think that is a FOC record for the longest owned. It would be really interesting to learn from such a long keeper from new about any issues because you never know what the twat before you has done or how they have ridden/ kept it.
But its not quite the oldest bike, a few years ago we had a thread about the oldest bike and my May registration was the oldest at the time.
Not from new as I am the 3rd owner but I have owned it 18 years and is my only bike - always with the caveat, as per my signature.
At 5'8" and 9 1/2 stone (10 with a good Sunday dinner in me and before Monday  ;) ) it just seems to "fit" me - almost like it was designed for me. Cheap to maintain - thanks to this forum, so that is why I have kept it so long.Currently 22k on the clock.
