Lacing up the rear wheel reminded me just how tedious wheel building can be. I thought of how happy my daughter will be on this. Its still just as tedious...

So wheels ready. Forks will be painted tomorrow then its just handle bars!

I thought I would make my racing snail lighter and handle better by removing its heavy shell.

If anything it was more sluggish.

ok firstly, sorry about the thread hijack :)

Leave it with me.  IIRC I don't have any materials to make the molds at the mo although I probably have enough cloth.  I will see about making some rad shrouds before borrowing your infils, I will get the bits I need.  Might not be this side of christmas but I will try

A couple of days.  The process would only take an hour or so, then left overnight to harden.  From that point the original panels are removed and not needed (apart from maybe referencing), they are cleaned up and thats it.

As for price, I am not really sure.  Up to this point I was only planning on knocking some out for myself.  Its been a few years since I bought CF cloth so not really sure about material costs.  Just a quick google though I think they would be around £100 for a set (both sides).  That would cover my time and materials (CF ain't that cheap nowadays).

I have noticed that you can now get coloured cloth so (heaven forbid) you want a CF weave with some blue thread in it thats possible...

TBH I wasn't expecting any demand...

I am wondering if I should make some radiator shrouds, make a couple of sets and post pics on here.  I can make a set for this forum that members can pass around to other members who want to see the quality of work.  These are smaller (therefore cheaper to make) I would like them myself and I have some I can use.

Yeah the black inners that cover the rectifier/radiator cap etc.

I am in Lancashire. They won't get damaged no.  I only have the right hand one and its damaged anyway (one mount hole has been pulled over the bolt head and it looks like it has been twisted).

If people are interested then I could just take it on the chin and buy some new ones to make moulds off and recoup the money selling them to gullable punt....I mean discerning clientel.

Once I have moulds I can make them with various specs (ie fibreglass, fibreglass with carbon presentation side or full carbon).  Vacuum bagged etc with a flawless finish.

For Sale & Wanted / Fazer 1000 Gen1 Forks
« on: 04 December 2013, 03:37:40 pm »
When Jack Frost arrives in earnest and I am no longer willing to risk riding on ice I will be fitting some R1 forks I got off eBay to my bike.

I will therefore have a set of straight standard forks available.  They look to be in good nick, the adjusters are fine, no scratches, no leaks.  The mudguard will be with them too (Red) which is in good nick save for a small mark.  If people are interested I will put some pics up post removal.

If anyone finds they need some give me a shout with an offer.

I am currently riding it daily, all weather 90 mile round trip to/from work.  Been fine so far, bit cold (I have no bike specific clothing really - Karrimor jacket).  Just ordered a Nitro N31 jacket (£32) and Kevlar Jeans with armour.  Can't wait for those to arrive as its getting a bit nippy.  I have a Hein Gerick waterproof oversuit for the really wet days.

I only have some race gloves, thin and not built for warmth but no problems so far - coated with Aldi waterproof spray they are pretty good and not getting damp certainly helps.

Saying that I will not be using it when it drops to freezing temps.

I see your in Cheshire?  The reference to dollars threw me :)

Try the Bike Hut (Bristol).  These had the headlights I struggled to find locally

http://www.bikehutbristol.co.uk/

They have a specific Fazer site (follow the Fazer Spares button).  They don't seem to list much there but when I called they had everything I needed (I asked about stuff I was already picking up local to check the prices I was being quoted were ok).  They sent the headlights and didn't charge for postage, got it a couple of days later and they kept all the little rubbers/screws, bulbs, socks on it.

There are loads of breakers in the NW, I used Berties in Chorley and a place in Wigan - can't remember the exact name but was something like Mad Bits or something near Wigan Pier...

That said I have yet to find any reasonably cheap front fairing inlays (I am not paying 50 quid for some second hand ones with scratches/pulled mounting holes).  If someone would loan me some to make a mould from I could make carbon fibre ones.....  I am sure I could make a set for the person lending them gratis :)

I take it your not in the UK?

Probably worth phoning breakers/salvage to be honest, they only seem to put popular stuff up on eBay.  I bought a crashed Fazer 1000 Gen1 to do up and got everything I needed in a single weekend by phoning, I only needed 1 item to be posted and that was a headlight the rest I found local (and cheap).

Odd that you can't find them, when I started looking a lot of the stuff I needed was much more common from the USA.  Saying that I was looking for frontend bits...

Have you tried any breakers?  Rear end stuff is easier to find and can be unmarked.

« on: 30 November 2013, 01:28:07 pm »
I am still on Jelly Bean but the last update I took really drained my battery too.  I found that it was the Chrome browser causing the problem, it has an option to use your location for searches which runs all the time using both network and GPS silently, this sucks your battery.  I was charging mine overnight and by the time I got home from work it was down to ~10%

To turn it off (assuming this is the same on your phone) its in:

Settings->LocationServices-> and the option is "Location and Google search.  Make sure that is turned off.  Try that and see if it improves, obviously your phone will no longer benefit from whatever that option brings but I have not noticed any change since switching it off and the battery is back to lasting days between charges.

Desperately need to wash my bike after a fortnight of winter commuting!

Waiting for a break in the rain to do that today but in the meantime I thought I would "restore" my rather sun-bleached aitbox covers.

Seems the bike was either stored/parked out in the sun one way or has had a new right hand side cover as one was fine the other was grey!

After reading about the marvels of peanut butter.......  I gave it a whirl!  I washed both sides in my usual wash mcguires gold class.

Then rubbed the faded one with peanut butter.  I was sceptical at first but its as good as any back-to-black I have tried before!

This is after a wash down with washing up liquid to get rid of the peanut butter etc.  Its left odorless and greaseless with a nice OEM style matt black finish.  This was only a quick attempt with little effort made to do the whole piece properly as the missis is in the house and I didn't really fancy explaining why I am toothbrushing my bike panels with peanut butter on my day off...

But yeah looks like I might do them properly with it!

No idea pal, like I said I am not a massive footy fan

Edit: That might sound a little aloof :)  Wikipedia simply says they are the 4th most successful, it does not have a table or anything.  Following the link it is:

When I discovered a scotoiler on my bike I was going to remove it however, after commuting over 1000 miles in 2 weeks I am keeping it. The chain is the only clean thing on the bike! There is so little fling the wheel is wipe clean and not really any dirtier than the non chain side.
