FZS600 Fazer / Renthal bar ends
« on: 27 April 2017, 08:04:38 pm »
Hi guys

Bike is getting some renthal bars next week to replace my bent stock one's, however I've heard to original bar ends don't fit them???

Does anyone know what bar ends do fit and if so could you supply any links?

I seen bar ends with mirrors however then I'm wondering how do I fill the gaps in the front fairing for the fairing mirrors?

Hope you can all help :)

UPDATE NEWS

Bike has a split radiator hose right under the tank, new one has been order but what bloody hard to get hold off, found it with electrical blue tap wrapped around it, clearly the owner before me wanted a quick fix, I'm amazed it's lasted the near 6000 miles with me lol

Get down Halfords and buy a bottle of Radflush and give the cooling system a good clean out.
That liquid has rust in it.

This is what i personally use as coolant in my bike.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motul-Motocool-Expert-Ready-To-Use-Motorcycle-Cooling-Liquid-1-Litre-1L-/161266933598?hash=item258c421f5e:g:DWcAAOSwxehXPD2n

I can't seem to catch a break at the moment, just rode to uni this morning and my right boot was a bit greasy, I'm so colorblind I still can't even see what this liquid is but it now looks like its coming from the engine casing that covers the starter clutch

I may be mistaken but I think the tube you're referring to is a protective outer for the coolant pipe that runs along the bottom of the motor and it doesn't have a clip. There is only a tiny amount of fluid on the photo which wouldn't account for having to top it up. Could it be a random drip from when you were putting the oil in? If you had a leak of any significance your engine would be plastered in it I would have thought.

Annoying I am so colorblind someone has corrected me it's actually coolant leaking out of the bike tonight, I think it's just because there isn't a hose clip on it

Thanks guys for the chain and sprocket help

Also you all went mental about 'burning oil' but look what I found tonight (Images attached).
For some reason there is no hose clip around that tube and I think that is where the oil leak is coming from.

Hi guys

Just came back from riding to, around and back from ireland, did 1236 miles in total, over those miles some oil seem to disappear and i needed to top it up with 10w40 semi synthetic oil (not happy about this) and also my chain kept getting slack.

Therefore I now need to do an oil change and want to know flat out what is the best oil for my 2001 Yamaha FZS 600 Fazer?

And what is the best chain and sprocket set as well please?

Hope you guys can help.

did your engine fan cut in when it started to warm up ? The oil is cooled at the oil cooler from engine coolant via the rad so the oil may have been getting too hot, further to that what's the level of your coolant and when was it last changed old coolant is less efficient , additionally how old is the oil? What's the oil level? Is it  low , spot on or high ? And is it of the correct grade, being a wet clutch I would say it's down to oil overheating somehow remember oil doesn't just lubricate it cools the engine as well and the older it is the less efficiently it does both,  I could be wrong but as you say it's fine when it cools down somethings causing the overheating.
BTW What's the UK motorcycle theft protest ???

Hi again Graham

We (UKMTP) are a motorcycle theft awareness group looking to reduce motorcycle theft in the UK. We are passionately pushing for changes in laws such as stricter sentences for major motorcycle thieves and gang members, we are fully behind police forces to be given more rights and protection to chase and knock off stolen bikes without fear of being prosecuted themselves for potentially injuring these thieves on stolen bikes. We also look to put pressure on councils and businesses for more attention and security put into motorcycle parking in order to make motorcycles harder to steal.

Hi guys

Just to answer a few of the points raised in comments:

1. oil and filter were changed the same time as the clutch (less than 1000 miles ago)
2. How do I check the coolant levels and if low what coolant would you all recommend I use?
3. Yes everything starting performing back to normal once the bike had cooled down

« on: 02 April 2017, 10:48:56 pm »
Hi guys

Some of you may or may not know that I am an admin for the UK Motorcycle Theft Protest  (UKMTP) and that this weekend we had our awareness ride in central London. I was leading a group of 80-100 bikers from Greenwich Park to Westminster Square. The ride was slow (10-20 mph) at all times (1st gear) lots of revving and horn beeping with lots of attention and eyes being given by the public.

However sadly as I was getting so close to Westminster my bike was incredibly hot, it was a hot busy Saturday in central London with no filtering and it got to a point that I could not shift the bike into natural, and then later on even with the clutch level fully pulled in and engaged, i still had to hold the brake lever otherwise the bike would start moving forward.

As soon as i turned my engine off though straight away it could go back into natural, and after the whole bike had a chance to cool down and i was on the way home (normal riding) the clutch and gearbox were fine with no problems.

It was annoying as i replaced the whole clutch less than 1000 miles ago so I can't seem to work out why it goes all messed up when its hot.

Hope you guys can help.
Thanks in advance.

Very nice. Where'd you get the mirrors from? They look different (and nicer) than mine.

Ebay pal, they're not bad, easy to move about, just got to get use to how small they are compared to the originals

Hi guys

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped me out with advice and offering of parts whilst me and my bike were recovering from our accident in January, massive thanks to Graham especially for the engine case as well.

Good news is the bike and I are now back on the road and she is as good as new, new fairing, new mirror's, new engine case, new oil and filter, new clutch, new cables and levers, and of course new exhaust (SP Engineering can sounds amazing by the way😆).

Picture below of how my bike is looking now.

Really wanted to post this just to show my appreciation for this group, everyone on here has been really helpful and friendly and I just wanted to say thanks for it, especially through the tough last mouth.

Cheers again guys ☺

Glad you're OK and on the mend.

If you're looking at replacing your brake and Clutch leavers I have some original ones sat in my garage that you can have as well as the original bar end weights.

Don't listen to tommy as we all know that the red ones are the fastest. He wont admit it but his is a red one really but it's just still in the primer stage  :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin

Thanks fr the kind offer mate, shouldn't need to replace the clutch level as the bike went down or it's right and sadly I've order brought a new brake lever  :rolleyes . Thanks anyway mate really appreciate the offer  :)

Don't listen to Harry his is off a Red Boxeye, don't fit his as it will not help with your top speed, but, with saying that yours is a slow red one anyway.

Aha you lot are all mental  ;)  love FOC-U so much

If he had a fast silver one he would have been long gone before those pedestrians even got out of their house.

Haha can't argue with you there you've got me  ;) :lol

I've got a standard 600 exhaust in good condition in the shed if you need it. I'll not be putting it back on as I do love the sound of my blueflame can.

PM if you're interested.

Chris

Thanks for the offer Chris, honestly I really appreciate that, I'm gonna replace it with an SP one I've wanted for some time (no better time than now I suppose) but nice of you to offer mate :).

« on: 03 February 2017, 04:02:52 pm »

Some might disagree, but I'd not have swerved, simply emergency braked and controlled the bike to stay upright.  I don't mean deliberately hit them, simply make a controlled stop with a blast on the horn.
Thats a tricky one without actually being there as there are times when an emergency stop is just not enough, many a creature has ran out infront of me at the last second and a swerve was the only thing that had saved me from having to clean up a right mess. And then I think after wards "how the Foc did I manage to swerve around that"

Sadly I only have my word for it and my memory is a little all over the place from my head smacking off the road but from what I recall they did just run out of nowhere, it was so dark on the path and my light was green I didn't see them until they were less than 10 feet in front of me, and at 30mph I just did not have time to brake

Any crash you can walk away from is a 'good crash' grant  :)
It's good that you focus on the bike, by the time you get it fixed up you'll be ready to get back in the saddle.

I know buddy and I should be more grateful about how lucky I was, just can't help thinking about the bike :'(
I will get it fixed up and be back riding in no time I promise that :).

Hi mate , sorry couldn't say for sure but I know the headlights fit the same and the bikes basically identical so I would think yes , attached some closer photos so you can see . Cheers

Yeah I see what you mean it's so hard to tell, they look the same but in a way it also look thinner than my one but I'm not sure they could very well be the same  :rolleyes

I owe a 2001 Yamaha FZS600 Fazer and I'm currently looking for the headlight fairing, was wondering if it was the same one on your 400?
