FZ6 / Fazer / Re: FZ6 S2 Throttle delay / dead spot
« on: 10 December 2022, 05:56:53 pm »
I didn't think that the S2 version was launched until 2007. The S2 actually smoothed out the throttle roll on from shut somewhat, although still not perfect. Some riders have fitted a 4 degree ignition advancer and claim that to smooth it out. Some also alter the the fuel mixture in the bike diagnostics system. I fitted a Power Commander 5 and had it set up on a dynamometer. May also possibly be a faulty/incorrectly set throttle position sensor and/or incorrectly adjusted cables. Bes to start with the easiest and cheapest potential solutions. Oh, and Id suggest not using E10 fuel, but that's a personal thing.

I'd check the continuity on the kill switch/ side stand cut out switch and, if necessary, strip them down and clean them.

That side stand switch is in a very bad place to access, which is why i bypassed mine many years ago during my elimination process stages.
In fact i still think i have a brand new one somewhere which i would have gladly fitted if it wasn't such a ball ache to do. It's never been a problem without it and it passes the MOT okay so not really a big deal to me, although you're better off having it functioning than not in fairness.

I always thought that was an MOT failure

I dont believe that the "special relationship" is any longer meaningful, and that the US has treated the whole matter in a contemptuous manner

While out jogging yesterday, I got chatting to another long time town resident. She lives close to a Council run care home which was closed down this autumn despite a strong campaign by local councillors and residents to keep it open. Allegedly, it was no longer fit for purpose and the Council had no funds for making it so. So all of the residents were passed on elsewhere. She has her finger on the local pulse and told me that the care home will, in the very near future, be accommodating illegal immigrants, just like the two hotels elsewhere in the town, and the one a mile just up the road in the next village. A bit of searching reveals the extent of the problem across the country, with private companies now commissioned by the govt to seek out and find accommodation for them. One such company has increased its profit in the last year from just £4.5m to £28m, with 37,000 illegals in approx 200 hotels across the country, at a cost to the taxpayer of £6.8 million a day. If that is the case, it will appear that the Council has chucked out the old folk, tarted up the care home, and prioritised the illegals

This is, unfortunately, the modern way.
But it shouldn’t be. Getting out of ECHR would certainly be a step in the right direction in stemming the numbers coming, together with reducing the number of those already here. £6.8 million a day is obscene.

Yes, it is, and it's hidden in plain sight, whilst everyone else gets upset about LGBTQVC rights. There's always a hidden story going on in the background, which with the media pushing the popular story, the truth seems to get forgotten about.

and if it couldn't get any worse, the govt now wants to detain them for longer, which will mean more hotels becoming holding centres (without the appropriate "change of use" planning approval)

Since the sprocket is splined onto the shaft, would it not be easier and secure enough to drill through the nut and into the sprocket. Then remove both, clearance hole in the nut, threaded hole in the sprocket, reassemble and bolt up?

maybe ,but we have successfully done it this way and its more than fine , i can change sprockets at will without re doing what you are suggesting every time you need to change  , there are many ways of achieving this though , this one was favourite for me. once done its back to  a state of normal use , even if i wanted to sell it on ( but i wont and dont intend to ) it can only ever be seen by anyone as an improvement in the least affecting way over the standard arrangement, even looks better and is easy to change sprockets still, there's no downside , its better than the original set up .

Good work

Out on the fazer yesterday, called in at my usual petrol station for some BP Ultimate, they only had E10 and nothing else (not even diesel), so rode another few miles to an Esso that sells ethanol free. Got there and that one looked abandoned, all fenced off. With the dregs left in the tank, turned again for a 5/6 mile ride to the nearest Shell filing station. Now the odd bit. I filled up (V-Power), paid with cash, and rode home. Within an hour, I had received an advertising e-mail from Shell in my inbox, and I dont recall ever receiving anything from Shell previously. I never spoke to the cashier other than to say "pump 8" and "thanks". Is it coincidence or are all registrations numbers collected and the owners address then obtained by Shell from the DVLA. How the foc did they get my e-mail address?

I suppose hoteliers are between a rock and a hard place. After the covid shut down, the offer of, in some cases, one years full occupancy, is hard to turn down.
We need someone like the ex Australian PM Tony Abbott. He doled out hard measures against illegals. He expected, and got, flack from the left, but got the job done.

But I don't see the situation changing. Having more of our civil servants based in offices in France wont make a difference, neither will giving the French more money. Until we start sending them back to France, or the country in which they first arrived at in Europe, they'll continue to boat over here for 4 star accommodation. Like many other of the problems facing the nation, govt doesn't appear to have actionable plans in place

But it's not just this government that's at fault - somebody ('97 - '09) invited them!

Anyway, at this rate, at least one of us is going to get reported/arrested for hate speech lol lol  :rolleyes

Id go further back than that. Govts for several decades have failed to take longer term actions to safeguard the nations interests, of both parties

If Border Farce and RNLI must insist in providing a taxi service for these illegals, then just take it a step further. Load them on coaches with adequate security, a short drive to Dover, straight on the next ferry, paying compensation to those people who get bumped out of the ferry queue, and they’ll be back in France in time for tea. Would be far cheaper than what’s happening now.

That assumes there's someone on the beach at the landing point, which is rarely the case. Since this is illegal entry, the army should be patrolling the beaches and initiating the roundup of any arrivals. As you say, then straight on the ferry or charted aircraft and back to France. Once returned there, they wont have any money left to buy another attempt and the French will then have to deal properly with them

Haha :lol .It is a shame how quiet the forum has been of late. The Fazer is such a reliable all rounder that there’s certainly nothing to complain about.

I would imagine that the onset of winter, the deterioration of the economy is not helping, along with the war in Ukraine and of course not forgetting Brexit......
And that's before we get to the millions being spent keeping  illegal migrants housed and fed, whilst many of our ex forces are living on the streets.

There are three hotels in our town, two have been "requisitioned" and house illegal immigrants, approx 500 in total. The third is currently undergoing refurbishment, and it has not been denied that it too will be a similar centre. Groups of these yuong men can be seen walking around the town most of the day, all smartly dressed in new sporty casual clothes. I have heard, but not had confirmed, that each is receiving the equivalent of £27,000 per annum, has three free meals a day, and free health and dental care. The car park of the largest former hotel has approx 30 cars parked there daily for those running the show/staff etc. It seems that we can solve accommodation problems at the drop of a hat and fund it, but not for our own citizens

Is this thread the only movement on the Forum?

Perhaps time is leaving us behind, after all, its over a decade since fazers were last produced, and despite our efforts to maintain ours, its inevitable that they fall away in numbers. A rollicking good social debate is likely to be stopped in its tracks by admin ;)

Replaced them with Yam OEM from Fowlers. I always tend to use OE for what I consider critical parts, never had any problems with them (apart from cost, but its only every 25k so justifiable)

When I did the 4 degree ignition advancer mod, I bought a pattern gasket which I think was about a third of the price on an OEM one.

There again, if you really want to save money, you can buy gasket sheet and cut out the required shape from that (not tried this myself, yet...)

The one I forgot to order at the same time was the small copper washer on the cooling system drain plug, which resulted in a drive up to CMC at Clay Cross to obtain

When I upgraded the fork springs to Hyperpro, I bought a box full of assorted sized copper crush washers which was about the same price as buying three Yamaha ones!

I've similar boxes of assorted washers/circlips/o rings etc accumulated over time, sadly the copper washer box did not go small enough in size and I couldn't obtain a correct sized one from any local engineering/automotive suppliers, hence a call to and trip to CMC. Having disturbed the fuelling system, I'll check and balance the throttle bodies at some point this week

Did you replace the gaskets or re-use the ones that were already on there?

Generous, romantic chap that I am, took the wife out for lunch today, to CMC motorcycles Clay Cross (had to pick up a part). Conversation went:

"Are you looking at the bikes while you're here?"
"Nope, cant afford another one"
"If you want another, then just get one, you're 71 next month and you cant take it with you".

I almost choked on the bacon cob.
