1st bike was my suzuki TS 125, brought with my tax rebate I got from work, loved that bike, as I mentioned elsewhere, I used to deliver telegrams on it when I was a telegram boy with the old P.O untill I got grassed up.to be fair, I wouldnt of been insured but I was a wild thing back in 1982 !!!!  :lol

great,quick update mate,thanks  :thumbup

i looked it up on the AJ SUTTON site, who use similar pictures to the one you posted from the Haynes manual,so i kind of know what im looking at as and when it gets fitted

fingers x'd they are ok, the joys of having to get it done on the day, rather than being able to leave it in bits while you wait for new parts to arrive eh?!!

thanks for the picture of the gear linkage that i asked for,i was curious to see where the bearings/spacers would be as neon knight mentioned elsewhere that his were shot when he replaced his rear shock, so im keen not to find mine are bad as and when i get round to fitting my R6 shock from kebab19, as i wont be able to leave the bike in the middle of my mates 2 ramp garage as it'll be in the way of his job while i wait for the new parts to arrive,if needed.
i think that explains myself, clear as mud eh?!!  :lol

bike looks good by the way  :thumbup
It's the suspension linkage you're after not gear link  ;)

well spotted,my deliberate mistake  :lol

the whole reason im into bikes is i joined the post office/Royal mail as a Telegram boy so had to get around on a bloody puch maxi 50cc thing ( sadly not the BSA bantam 175's of 'back in the day' ),passed my 50cc test in summer 1981 ( not sure if that was an offical test or a PO test to  be honest ? )i brought a suzuki TS 125 ( old original 'P' reg ) and id do the telegrams on that untill the head of wentworth golf course reported me  :lol ,id of probably not bothered doing another test but a bloke started working on the post who had a 750 something or other,he took me out on it up to the bike show at Earls court and i was hooked, passed the new 2 part test in febuary 1983,did the part 1 at Catford and passed part 2 in the pissing rain/dark/cold in that wonderful town of slough, instructor on foot the miserable jock wayne kerr  :)

sadly all my photo's of my early bikes are at my mums house up in leafy berkshire,im up there this weekend,i must bring them home and add to this classic bike topic  8)

That's a good looking bike 8)

thank you  :thumbup
my pride and joy

And rightly so fella - loving the seat, is it a Digger seat?

yes it is,i phoned him on a tuesday to arrange to have my seat done by him,and he'd recently finished doing one,so i met him the next day at weston bike night and got it off him there and then  8)

good quality workmanship and did 200 miles last sunday with only one 15 minute stop and never even thought about having a sore bum so im assuming the better padding is doing its job.plus the higher 'bumstop' of the raised pillion seat is a nice idea.

Good to hear you're still happy with it mate as that is of course half the battle in the biking world regardless of the rest. (Dont i know :\ ).

Keep up the good work and keep getting out & keep racking up miles.

Most folk when they pass their car test think that they'll just go out for a drive for the sake of it...when they're 18

But i think only bikers understand keeping that spirit alive beyond the age of 20 8)

i went out last sunday 'for a couple of hours' and was out for 5 hours / 201 miles, i just love it noggy, and i know you know the feeling,i just have the single man freedom to do it !!  :) / :(
plus, i love having no debt to the bike,so when it sits there for days/weeks on end,its not the 'dead money' feeling i used to get with my old bikes i had on loans etc.
i need to get the front fender plastic welded and resprayed,as when the bike fell off the main stand last summer and somehow cracked the fender, the crack is getting more obvious so im guessing it needs looking at,i'll whip it off after my planned bimble this sunday.oh,and replace the clutch lever that got 'shortened' in the same incident  :wall

hope your well mate  :thumbup

bog standard apart from the rear hugger

There is nothing "bog" about a standard FZS600  ;)
When you think about it there is nothing that can be done to inprove it unless you are very short or very long or very fat (large framed), all that we do are cosmetic things mostly

great bike as standard when new i imagine, but after 13 years and who knows what history on my fazer,id say braided lines, new, better oil, fresh coolant/brake fluid, and a new, better rear shock with the hugger to keep it better protected from the wet/grime off the rear wheel are more than cosmetic wouldnt you?

its all the bike i need at the moment,so im getting her to my liking as i plan to keep her for the forseeable  :thumbup

now,if i got the wheels painted the yellow that i would like to,THAT would be cosmetic !!  :lol

FZS600 Fazer / a year of fazer fun...
« on: 31 October 2014, 07:06:13 pm »
just realised that it was a year today that my lovely  :faz  was delivered from the shop i brought it off in Cardiff
it was bog standard apart from the rear hugger and the rack,it was meant to be a all year ride to work bike to get me back into the groove of biking again, but 2 things happened to change those plans......

firstly, the gales and floods hit and i discovered this bloody forum !!  :lol  ( best thing to happen to a new fazer owner who's been 'off scene' for about 9 years )

so,as a direct link to advice/tips/adverts on here,ive

changed all the brake lines to braided hoses
changed the exhaust to a lush sounding Boewulf can
K&N air filter/oil filter
double bubble dark screen
had the seat re done/upholstered
upgraded the rear brake caliper/torque arm
oil/coolant/brake fluid  changed
changed the front sprocket nut
ordered the r6 shock upgrade from kebab19 (due soon)

plans for next year, fit the shock, set it up for me,change the front fork oil and use it more often,im already planning my 9 day holiday from somerset to northumberland, scotland and the lake district in september !!

so,thanks for all the advice/tips/patience/sarcasm,roll on next spring  :thumbup
put 3.5k on the clock

welcome rick  :thumbup

lovely looking bike there...

which part of NZ you in ?

when i did my 2 month visit to NZ way back in 1997 i hired a FZR600 (jap import so restricted sadly) for a few days from a shop in Wellington, meet a mate who lived out that way and he showed us around that part of the north island, went up some famous bikers road with a bikers cafe at the top,the road was shocking with loads of HGV's churning the corners up which meant loads of  gravel on the road, plus it was bloody raining,so we headed off inland and i fell in love with the place, real biker friendly roads and no traffic, sheep was a problem as i remember it-bit like being in wales but with out the traffic!!

always planned to return,marriage/mortgage saw to that idea, but never say never.

more picture's please mate  8)

get it knicked, get the insurance money-sorted !!  :evil    :lol
