FZS600 Fazer / Had my cam chain done but...
« on: 17 March 2015, 01:33:50 pm »
Update today: clutch issues? More videos

Had my cam chain done due a rattle.
Seemed obvious as the tensioner was almost near the end.
Had a service at the same time all done by a specialist local to me.
The bike still taps, I've been told it definitely isn't the chain, it's a more frontal noise low down.

Hot or cold makes no odds.
It's not that bad on idle, anything more and you can hear it, hopefully it can be heard In the video link.
Anyone had anything similar at all?

Thanks

**excuse the original thread being on an attached picture. This stupid ipad wouldn't submit it and I kept re typing and it wouldn't work so I've posted that, and edited this post to say almost the same thing now. I love technology.

I use the Senna bike to bike and for music and the like
You push the big jog dial button on the side to open the intercom and then again to close it down they are good up to half a mile with line of sight but less if things get in the way
The only problem I have is the noise from my screen on the fz1 above about 50 it was ok on other bikes
Radio technology is old hat and one dimensional. I know it works, but it is not adaptable to modern life. Go down the bluetooth route. That way you can connect to each other  :thumbup  You can also independently listen to music, sat-nav or any other bluetooth compatible device  :thumbup   There is no massive radio in your pocket, so its less weight and bulk :thumbup  The price is about the same :thumbup  And they look a hell of a lot better :thumbup .

I have used a bluetooth headset for the last couple of years. My mate has the same one and we can chat when we are touring. He can listen to the directions from my Garmin Zumo, so doesn't have to "follow me", we can each listen to our own music and we can make and receive calls.

What one do you have Mate?

Cheap job or more expensive kit?

That seems decent enough

Is that proper wired radios or wireless bluetooth  jobs?

Will get searching. They're starting from around £50 up.

80 plus is just when I'm blipping around never a constant speed really so that doesn't matter.

I'm pretty steady with the other half on the back.

Cheers

Yeah that's what I wasn't sure of, that sounds good. I guess just getting used to the positioning of the headset part.

They look very good quality, though I am half tempted with the cheap Chinese £50 job on eBay.

Often you buy cheap you buy twice, but it really is occasional use so I'm torn.

Thanks

Those look good
Intercom wise though, I take it there's no push to talk feature or anything, they just hear everything you say and stuff?

Little pricey possibly too, as I'd need 2 obviously

Hello all.
Long time no speak on here, but I've finally had my cam chain done, and a service, and tax and test so I'm back on the road after a small fortune.

As the summer is nearing, and my partner and I now live together, we're looking at spending some time out on the bike.

I've already ordered a set of love handles, hopefully to make both our lives a touch easier.

Next up, I was hoping for some kind of intercom setup.
Something 2 way, basically so we can generally just communicate, which with the other half, anything longer than 5 minutes ride time is necessary lol.

Are there any relatively basic setups that will allow this?
I can't seem to find anything obvious online and I'm pretty new to this, didn't think I'd ever have the need but it seems it'll be beneficial for years to come.

Any advice of course is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all

I see.
I won't be able to get a pic I've tried taking one before and the camera doesn't pick it up its that thin a crack.

Half of me thinks I should but a decent used engine and be done. Cam chain needs doing and finding cases won't be easy.

Then there's the rebuild which I can't do myself.

All adding up on this engine :/

As above.

Got a small hairline crack just where the water pump sits in.

What is the crank case made from so I can look into welding work?

Thanks

Fair question. I think mine is endless  but I bought  the extra soft link.

I'm assuming a lot  of extra parts are required though?

No urgency as wasn't planning on using it any time soon. There's an oil leak that looks to require welding too :(

Inbox me and we can talk if you like? But no urgency either way :)

I've done about 500 miles all year it's been stood now for 2 months at least :(

Only 2 clicks  left on the tensioner though so advice from here suggests it needs a chain :( glad yours has gone over though :)

That seems fair to me.

Is there a train station near by?
Probably have  to drop it on a Saturday and collect the following Saturday if that's any good?

When's best for you really as I'm in no urgency as it has no tax or insurance at the moment but I can sort those out easily enough

Cheers

What would you charge? It's actually tempting.. my brother lives in Peterborough so not actually that far from you if I remember correctly?

Nothing specific really.

Time is always short I've been working a lot and don't want to find myself rushing and stuff.

And not sure that my chain tool will do the job and if it does are the pin ends peened over enough etc.

Thought I'd be confident but in reality If a reasonable quote comes up ill pay to have it done.

If the cash is useful to someone on here then the job can go to themy as lon as they know the can do the job fine

Cheers

I do apologise if this is in the wrong place.

I bought all the stuff to do my cam chain and have decided I don't really fancy the job.

I'm in the Wiltshire Somerset area and don't mind dropping you the bike within reasonable distances.

Anyone fancy it?
Split link chain so no engine out or engine split business.

Cheers guys

Phoenix sub some of their larger jobs out to an ex mechanic who's gone on his own.

I think I'll do the job myself, looks like I'll need a torque wrench and chain tool, then I'll do almost any job myself.

Phoenix forgot to charge me for my mot and it passed with no advisories which I was chuffed with, the service is second to none also, I've bought all my odd bits from there, when my chain snapped I needed clutch rods, seals, gaskets and some fiddly bits, they were astonishingly willing to help, but slightly pricey on some things, main dealer prerogative I guess.

I don't like garages with reputations of bodge, I can bodge anything myself and if I couldn't I know someone who could, sod paying the going rate for a job to get a bodge.

Terrified of paying for the job to be done by a total bodge artist, I'd sooner do it myself over a whole weekend, save my cash and know that at least I don't have a handful of bolts left and the like..

Still looking for recommendations on chain tools that'll work for this type of chain, and now a reasonably priced torque wrench 1-30nm or more range also... Lol

Thanks

That sounds fair comment to be fair. Perhaps I'll see if I can borrow one though don't mind purchasing one if it'll actually do the job.

Brake fluid needs doing anyway so will change the lines and if I decide I don't like them ill fit new oem  ones to replace my old standard ones :)

I've read the k and n is a good option though yet to find a definitive answer as to why, apart from not having to replace it ever again just clean. ..

Cheers
