FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front sprocket sizes
« on: 01 July 2014, 11:02:28 am »
Another one here for 2 up on the front and 2 down on the back.

And I wouldn't change it if you paid me! Bike is still RAPID, and with that engine thats no surprise. It's more than man enough to deal with the change.

As I've said in other posts, the gearing difference is exponentially applied. So in first gear the difference is negligible. But in top, around 1000 rpm less than standard. Makes the bike SO much more comfortable on the long rides.

And I've never struggled to keep up! In fact some plonker on an SV-650 tried to race just yesterday, he's still spitting out my dust  :rollin . Never ceases to surprise folks how surprisingly capable these FZS's are!

I'm so pleased with my micro fairing, that I'm going to keep it full time.

So thinking of getting rid of my full front fairing and the bits attached to it.

So:

Full front fairing.
Carbon vinyl wrapped. Small crack by right indicator. Small crack on underside. Mirror holes slightly lengthened to accommodate FZ1 mirrors.

Left and right in-fill panels.

Left and right mirror sub frames.
Drilled to also fit FZ1 mirrors.

Pattern FZ1 mirrors.
Way wider than OE fzs ones. Not as firm as they used to be though.

Super tall touring screen.
        Dark tint. I think it's a powerbronze.

At this point, I'm open to offers.

For the lot, OR happy to split.

I'm in Germany, so I understand this could put a lot of you off.

I'll leave it all on here for a little while, then it'll be going on Das eBay!

Pictures to follow soon.

I'm heading down from Hamburg to Spain, then back via France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany this summer.

I'm planning to go out extreme simple. A tarp pegged one end, tied to the leaning bike the other. With my snoozing bod in a superlight sleeping bag underneath.

Anybody tried this? Any pitfalls? Other than the leaking sump plug dripping on me as I dream!...

Cheers chaps. Really enjoyed making that one!

Joe, I have a Drift HD 1080 on my bonce, with a microphone from an "Oxford Bike Mike 3" from the dark ages threaded inside the helmet. The sound isn't quite that clear raw, but with some sneaky EQ and a bit of multiband compression you can bring it out.

The second camera is an Easypix Xtasy. (basically a polaroid XS100 with a different paintjob). And it's horrible! The Drift is glitchy (many corrupted videos, lost footage, freezes etc) but the Easypix makes the Drift seem well behaved! I almost didnt even get to use it on the track day because it was frozen by the time I got there and I had nothing small enough for the reset hole! (said the actress to the bishop).

I'd love to get better gear all round (I have now upgraded to the specific Drift Microphone). but money just doesn't allow.

I quite fancied Oulton Park btw FZSteely. But again, Snetterton timing and cost were more accomodating!!

In any case, have fun!

Tip 97:

Take cameras and Document the experience for others to enjoy!

Of course, this is not at ALL important.

But I did it!

This was my first time, and it was amazing.

The bike is fantastic on the track!

But agree with everybody else.

Don't race.

Take it at your pace, you'll be twice as quick, 4 times as relaxed and 8 times as knackered at the end of the day!

Finally, prepare to ache a bit the next day!!

Nice lights... Good job... But that brake lever says "dropped"

Yes it does!

It had been over (quite hard I think) before my tenure. And I gently dropped it once myself. Works well for me though, I have long fingers!

So less 'dropped', more 'Forcefully adjusted'!!

Thanks ChristoT!

I like that it looks different, but still kinda fits the original look of the bike!

Next step is making infill panels for the gaps left rear of the headstock.

Here's mine in it's 'Summer Wardrobe' while i was hiding from a not very summery rain storm recently.

Not the cleanest it's been!

Liking the look of semi-naked so much I might just keep it like that for good.

Not today, but yesterday...

Spent the day installing some auxiliary lighting so that I can see in the dark again after going back to standard Fazer Candles.

Mounted the extra light to the forks so that I can see round the corners on those dark twisty Black Forest roads!

Also took Fazeriders advice (from a different thread) and while I had all the electrics out, wired direct power from the battery to the headlights via relays switched by the original light wiring.

Originally had a voltage drop of 1.4V per bulb. Now down to 0.3V and I really think the lights are a fair bit brighter! The wiring box under the tank is now tighter than Daisy Duke's shorts though! Lot of junk in that trunk!

I tried Shell's Premium fuel a while ago (curiosity got the better of me) and found that the bike seemed to 'Buzz' a lot more. To the point where it was uncomfortable and spoiled my ride a bit.

Next fill up, back to standard, an it was smooth as ever!

Same with Esso's offerings.

Maybe something strange about my bike?

Is it a bracket to go in place of the rear footpeg, in case you want to lose it?

FZS600 / Re: Fazer Headlight Mod for mark 1 FZS600
« on: 15 May 2014, 12:53:47 pm »

There is a fair voltage drop along the existing cables for the headlights, typically more than a volt.
You could install heavier cabling to relays and use the existing signals from the switches to control the relays, that will give you brighter lights.
It'll also drastically reduce the life of the filaments.

I'm seriously thinking of doing this. But my problem would be that I can't imagine where the extra relays would go? Theres just NO more room in that tiny little fusebox under the tank. I suppose the rear left panel by the battery has a bit of space, but that means running the switching wires practically back to the battery.

And what kind of gauge of wire would folks recommend? I've just run in a relay switched spot/foglight combo unit (with relays) and used 1.5mm2 cable. But I'm guessing that 2 lamps is about the limit of this cable. If I'd been a little more forward thinking I could have run in a thicker cable from battery to fusebox and branched from there. D'oh!!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Any ideas for a mirror change?
« on: 15 May 2014, 10:52:40 am »
That would be ideal for quick adjustment. The tight fit needed to avoid rattly mirrors without a mechanical 'clamp' would likely drive up the cost of the mirror though. Manufacturing tolerances, quality materials etc..

Maybe a system like the quick release clamp of a bicycle seat post?

We're doing the designers work here!

Who has contacts in China!?....

Yeah, it was an awesome day!

I had Metzeler Z6's front and rear. And tbh, they did VERY well.

And yes, full leathers or two piece that zips together 360º.

It's so true! And one of the reasons that I'll probably not ever get rid of mine!

The guy I went with was on a Triumph Daytona (4 cyl) 600 (or 650, I forget). Anyway, he looked down his nose at my bike and then promptly struggled to keep up with me all day!

Perfect German mate!

I would imagine it's an allan key at most.

If I had stayed in the UK and bought these mirrors, I'd have switched the allan headed bolt for some kind of thumb screw.

I have done the same with the screw that holds the petrol tank down. It's saved me many a time when I've forgotten to turn the fuel back on after a tinker under the tank!

I always fancied getting a set of these:

Or these:

(sorry, german ebay postings, but they are available in the UK)

So that for countryside blasts I can have them extended out, and for the city commutes, just shorten them in!

Sadly, they aren't E-marked so no go for me. but could work for you! And I've not seen many bikes with them on.

I did one a short while ago. No kneedowns, but I wore a fair portion of my toe sliders off and my back tire is scrubbed right to the very edge.

It was £89 for the day, and tbh, I don't think I could have ridden that track any more. I was shattered!

I even made a little video...

Or this one if you want to skip the pre-amble...

All in all, I reckon the bike was more than capable. I was in the novice group as it was my first track day, so I'm not saying I'm the best rider, but I was keeping up with and on some of the bendier sections overtaking R1's and R6's. All on my 12 year old commuter!!!  :lol

It must hurt to be overtaken by a £500 granddad when you're on your £5000 sportsbike!  :rollin

Completed the oh-so-wrong-feeling DOWNGRADE to standard headlights!  :'(

Double headlight mod completed, of course.

Also switched to the summer fairing and fitted my new/old retro style bar mounted mirrors. (€10 the pair! With E-mark!)

Already ordered a secondary light unit to make sure I can still see in the gloom!

Yet to make some panels to cover the front corners of the frame (rectifier, horn area) and yet to figure out what to do about indicators. But already pretty happy with the more streetfightery look.

NOGGY! Don't trade yours in, we make a good team!!!

FZS600 Fazer / HH Sintered Pads changed braking 'feel'
« on: 27 April 2014, 05:15:55 pm »
Hey all.

I've recently bunged a set of Ferodo HH sintered pads into the front of my FZS.

Problem is, the brakes now feel horrible. Really snatchy and rough.

Is this normal for sintered pads? If not, looks like the discs might be warping.

Guy I bought the bike off said they were new last year, so hopefully not. But then he lied about other things too. There was no gold stashed in the fusebox....

How did you get the flash/pass button to work?

I wired mine up so the main beam flipped the solenoid as you did, but this just resulted in a 'click' from the solenoid if the headlights weren't switched on already.

Moot point for me really, as I'm going back to standard.

Stupid EU rules. Auxiliary driving lights, here I come!

Ah, I see.

Apples and Pears then, it seems. I have a Boxeye. So your lights are already better than mine!

I think I'll just have to power them up and see. I reckon the beam pattern will tell a pretty conclusive story.

I just like to have an idea before I get the tools out!

Forewarned is forearmed!

Cheers.
