It fits just as well under the rear pillion section of the seat on the right hand side as you sit on the bike....Em not a fan of drilling into swing arms myself...

Depends how bad it is?

Can you feel it when you ride, or are there problems balancing the wheel?

If no, then leave it.

Thanks for the reply mate. The answer to both is no. I only found it when I was cleaning the wheel TBH...

Think I will just drill it out and use a nut behind it. Seems the easiest way

What are those things you can tap on the hole with a thread on?

« on: 02 March 2014, 08:06:19 pm »
I don't mind the standard indicators, at the end of the day it's not a sports bike. If u have a rack or want one bare in mine the standard indicators are best at the rear.

FZS600 Fazer / Seized chain guard bolt

I've been doing a fazer up that I purchased. I have come to remove the tax disc holder someone has put on using the rear chain guard mounting bracket. The bolt is seized it's an Allen head and it's been rounded off, heated it,used a snap on bit in it no good, mole grips, even welded a nut on it and when I turn it the bolt just bends it's ready to snap.

I was just going to let it snap then drill it out and use a nut with a bolt behind. Anyone else done this? Don't want to give it anymore stick and end up snapping the bracket off the swing arm

Did you remove the pistons completely and check the seals?

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Chain & Sprocket change..
« on: 24 February 2014, 01:50:50 am »

It is now time to change the chain and sprocket on my bike. I have already bought  genuine Yamaha items. I have been quoted £45 for labour by the guy who MOT'd my bike. Is it reasonable?

If its an endless chain requiring removal of the swingarm, then it's cheap,

If its a rivet link chain then it should only take 40 mins max, so including VAT, it's probably ok

Does anyone actually bother with endless chains anymore?

I had the FZ6 05 didn't like it. Engine to revy no midrange and I didn't like the front fairing and headlight style. Carbs get me excited man. They feel a lot more raw.

I can confirm for anyone doing this job that the front sprocket nut size is indeed 32mm. Ive got the front and rear sprockets changed, so tomorrow night I just need to  fit the new chain.

I was speaking to an old timer in work on friday and he recommended the ball pein method as well, ill try it with the tool first though. slowly :lol.

I assume my front sprocket was an OEM one, are these thicker than the D.I.D ones?

The OEM ones have a thick rubber washer welded to the inside. To stop noise. I always buy an OEM front sprocket

FZS600 Fazer / Fazer a cracking bike
« on: 23 February 2014, 05:22:39 pm »
I went to test ride a new NC750 which I have been tempted by. Granted its only a twin so different from a fazer. I couldn't believe how boring it was to ride. My fazer is a 2003 and I could by the NC no problem but I must say these fazers are a cracking bike. I couldn't ride a new NC750 instead of a Fazer. Ok they might be better on fuel and newer but the fazer would leave it standing. The fazer is a much better machine.....In many ways...

FZS600 Fazer / replacing fork leg bottom
« on: 23 February 2014, 05:19:18 pm »
I am currently doing up a fazer I bought as a project. It has been down the road. I have done most things on it. I want to replace the fork leg bottoms but what I want to know is will are they easy to do? I can remove the oil etc myself. Will I need a fork seal driver to put seals in the new fork leg or is that only if you are putting a seal in and keeping the fork leg whole?

You should of fitted the scott oiler under the seat. It sits almost upright at the rear of the seat then. What area are you in?

One of the brackets on the bottom of my headlight that the front fairing screws to has come off. It's not a big deal but wanted to know the best thing to use to stick it back on?

Thank you people

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front wheel issue
« on: 21 February 2014, 07:57:18 pm »
That all sounds good
But I still dont get it, because the pistons go in depending on how thick your pads are. So thicker pads wont be pressing on the disk any more than thin ones would.
isnt it ??

Pistons will only retract so far due to pressure in the system. they don't go all the way back. So if you were to put pads in and say slide a 1mm or 2mm thin piece of metal behind each pad it would push the pads closer to the disc and cause the wheel to bind. Remove the metal and you will have extra space hence the wheel being more free.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Removing snapped exhaust studs
« on: 21 February 2014, 05:02:16 pm »
Start spraying them now with plus gas, also when you do take them out it will be the middle two most likely to snap so make sure you get on it flush with a decent socket, let the engine get RED HOT first, then heat the stud with a blow torch until it glows orange. Don't cut corners give yourself the best chance of removing it, you don't want to snap one as it's grief, if you do snap one,

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Changing a chain

A decent chain tool will push a rivet out without having to grind anything off. Trick is you need to get the pin on the tool dead straight on the rivet then nip it. Then gradually turn to free it.   Try and do it nest the sprocket as you can use the sprocket to lever down on....failing that cut it off as said, thin blade angle grinder... 1sec later it's off

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front wheel issue

Found the issue out. Someone had used the original back plates (shims) on the EBC pads that were in the calliper, these are only for original pads and not after market pads. Also took the shim off the rear pads which freed the rear wheel up big time. After market pads are made the same thickness as the original with the plate on. No need to put the backing plate on aftermarket pads as this pushes the pads closer to the disc and causes a tight wheel
